To say that she was just a little confused would not give the feelings justice she had no idea what to think of the sudden change of attitude that had apparently been sparked by something imaginary since she knew for a fact that there had been nothing out of the ordinary in the last hour. All that had happened had been the reassurance from earlier when he had come out onto the porch to talk to her and then he had returned back inside to help her finish cooking and by the time that she wandered back into the house his entire demeanour had changed, causing her stomach to churn wishing that she would be able to do something to take the worry or whatever was plaguing him away. He had enough to worry about right now he did not need something else being the matter as well. Guilt settled into her gut as well although she was almost positive she had not been the cause of this she knew that deep down there might be something that was bothering him that was to do with her and perhaps it had been for awhile now and he had just been letting it fester until he was not able to take it anymore. After all she knew that every person had their breaking point and what if his had just been reached. She did not like to think of that though since it left her and their future to chance. He paused as she asked him if she had done something and dark eyes met hers. She took the moment of eye contact to try to judge what emotions were hidden beneath the surface though she was not able to decipher them accurately. He then spoke telling her that she had done absolutely nothing wrong and this caused her to tense a little, she did not like to think that he might be lying since she was almost positive that he prided himself on being truthful and she could not picture him lying but would he do so if he thought that the truth would hurt her? Would he keep this a secret to make sure that he did not distract her before their large trip? She wondered all this but was finally managed to silence her thoughts when she took a moment to compose herself since he had already turned in the direction of the bedroom and walked that way to climb into the bed and turn the lights off, though not enough that she would not be able to find her way there. It did not take much longer then five minutes for her to have her teeth brushed and move in the same direction to crawl beneath the covers. When she awoke the next morning it was rather late and she felt as though she had not slept a wink. After stretching she then carried on her way from the bathroom to the kitchen where the man stood, a forced smile crossing rugged features. They ate silently which usually she did not mind though this morning it seemed to have an edge to the silence where she was a little uncomfortable so she found herself eating a little quicker in order to be able to stand up and put the plate in the sink and wash them before then heading back to the bedroom to make sure that everything was packed properly before they were set to leave. She stepped into her shoes and tightened them until she knew that they would not rub before shrugging her jacket on and making a last round of the place with him before then heading out to the SUV that was in the driveway and climbing into the passengers side, securing the seatbelt over her lap though she doubted they would even meet another car on the road that they turned down that looked as though it had seen better days. Eyes were focused on the scenery that passed by the window in large flashed before he announced that they were going to have to hike further from there and she nodded securing her pack on her back and landing on the ground. Watching as he settled the rest in the car telling her that they were going to need snow shoes since the powder was loose and she nodded securing them to her feet and stepping behind him, there were a couple of times where she was not used to them and stumbled a bit though her balance was good and she managed to keep herself upright the entire time. He lectured her on keeping hydrated and eating and she did so drinking plenty of water and only needing to stop a couple times, she was fit though and she knew that in the end it would not take too much out of her. When the five hours had passed she was weary but not overly fatigued and she felt as though she would be fine in the morning. She helped him assemble the tent before he then looked for firewood and brought back two small animals that he had hunted. He had built a camping fire out in the front of the cave she moved to the front where he was and proceeded to stretch legs out in front of her stretching muscles to ensure that they would not be as sore in the morning. I am sorry if I was too slow for you today. She told him while meeting his gaze with a steady intent expression.

Using a long-handled wooden spoon he had brought along in her pack, he stirred the beans and rabbit soup sort of dish in the pot while it boiled and cooked, nearly oblivious to what the lady was doing although he was aware that she was nearby. Glancing up from his task briefly, to see what she was doing, he caught her stretching and eyes instantly roamed over the sleek form, remembering her naked and pressed against him. Quickly jerking his head back to the pot, he refused to look up; instead choosing to keep his gaze trained solely upon the contents of their dinner so there would not be a chance of him having any flashbacks again. Still, regardless of whether his mind was flashing through memories of the night before or random thoughts of her, his pulse continued to race, making him restless to the point where it was almost impossible to remain calming crouched on his heels in front of the fire in order to make sure their meal was cooked properly and promptly. Kat was just about to pause in his cooking and stand to excuse himself with the excuse of needing to do the necessaries just when the girl spoke, catching him off guard and unprepared when she apologized for being too slow. With her words, she chilled his blood and brought his heart back down to a manageable speed; dismissing any urges to get up and walk off energy as face whipped around to look at her, dark pools boring into hazel depths as if trying to see beneath her physical appearance and into her brain so he would know what she was thinking. After a moment, he frowned and shook his head, shifting attention back to the pot for a moment only to look back at her with a stern expression. You did better than any other person I have ever hiked with at keeping up with my pace. Even others who are Chosen manage to slow me down especially when snow shoes are required. Falling silent, he let his liquids linger for a little longer before he checked the food be make sure it was as close to ready as he wanted it to be. The water slowly began to bubble less and he placed more wood beneath the pot to help increase the heat of the fire. It took a few more minutes, but the food finished cooking to the point where it was good enough to eat. He produced two spoons and plastic bowls from his pack and poured some of the soup for her to hand it over to her and then poured what was left into his bowl. Letting the fire burn on till it would die and letting the snow he had filled the pot with clean it as best as it could, he moved to sit inside of the cave where he could lean up against the wall without the chilly air blowing against him. The first few bites he took burned his tongue, but it did not matter much because the meal did not have much flavor to it. He had made it because it was a good source of all the minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates that their bodies had used throughout the day while they were hiking. After the first spoonfuls however, the food did not seem as hot as it was earlier so he ate in a quicker rhythm although clung still to his ordered way of lifting the spoon to his mouth while back remained rigid in perfect posture. By the time he had finished eating, the sun had sunken below the horizon completely, immersing the area in darkness although the small amount of moon light that shone upon the white snow was enough to see by if one had to walk out of the cave. The fire died not soon after the sun finished its departure, but that did not matter. Blankets and thick sleeping bags would be able to keep them warm overnight. Standing slowly, he approached Feylnx and seeing that she was done, took her bowl and his own to wash them out like he had the pot. After all utensils were loaded back into his bag, he detached the sleeping bags from their packs and got out the heavy blankets he had brought along just in case then started to spread them out on the rock floor. If you are going to change I would do so now. We need to get into our sleeping bags as soon as possible before the temperature starts to drop drastically. Voice was a bit muffled as he addressed her, taking over his shoulder while facing away from her and finishing their bedding for the night. Both of the blankets he had brought he placed at the foot of her sleeping bag before moving to his pack to produce thermal underwear, two thick wool socks, and a set of heavy sweats. Then he stripped down to his boxers and socks to change into the clothes he had gotten out. Turning to look at Fey, he made sure she was ready for sleep before making his way to the sleeping bag and got into his, sitting up still while watching her. Use the blankets. They will help to keep you warm when it gets too cold. Nodding his head towards the end of her bag where he had left the folded fabric, he told her of their intended use before getting deeper into the bag where he could lay back and relax, turning onto his side in preparation for sleep.

Her stretching in front of him had not been intentional and to her plus why did it matter when they were husband and wife and it was not like he had not seen her naked. She was rather comfortable in his presence, well at least a little more than she had been the first couple days even though it had only been something like two weeks. So far they were looking hopeful, well until last night when she did not have a clue what had gone on in his mind when he turned back to the cold guy that she had first been married to. It sent her mind reeling into thoughts of what she could have done wrong even though he had tried his best to convince her that it was not something that she had done. When muscles felt limber and she was sure that there would be no lactic acid build up within them she stretched out sitting comfortably on a small ledge that was close to where the fire that he built was and she watched him as he stirred the soup and even though it was rabbit and it was not going to be an ideal meal it did smell good and she was not picky since she was quite hungry by now. When she apologized for being so slow it was not as though she would take it personally if he told her that she was slow though he looked appalled when she stated this and he continued to look as though he was looking for something to say before then his mouth was opened to speak. Dark pools held a stern expression that perviously might have intimidated her, though she felt no fear around the male, ever not even when he was in the worst of his moods. She knew that he would never hurt her. Plus this intensity that he held was one of a different calibre. Brow raised slightly though to the bare eye it might not even be noticed. He shook his head in response to her comment when she had apologized for being so slow since the entire time she felt as though she was holding him back and lagging behind. He told her that she was better than the Chosen that he had hiked with and that she had nothing to apologize for. Well thank you. She spoke softly before then turing her attention back to the meal that was being prepared as it seemed to be done as he took it away from the heat and she realized how hungry she really had been when her stomach rumbled lightly. He then handed her a bowl that he had poured with a spoon. A small smile was produced in a thank you before the soup was brought to her lips and seemed to fill the gap that had been provided by the loss of food during their trek. It was also warm which was nice in the weather that was turning colder and colder by the moment and she knew that she needed to get into the cave and out of the open air. When he took her plate for her when she had been finished she uttered a small, "Thank you." before then heading back into the cave when he advised her that if she wanted to change before going to bed she better do it now. She nodded and moved to where her bag had been placed before quickly stripping down and replacing the clothes that she had been wearing before then putting on much heavier thermal attire before then slipping into her sleeping bag to allow her body to warm the area up. She nodded when he told her to use the blankets if she was getting cold to keep her warm. She then turned to lay on her back and stare at the ceiling glad to be out of the wind. Goodnight, Kat.

Upper torso expanded as the male took a deep breath of the cold night air, refreshing his lungs of oxygen while at the same time shocking his throat as if he had poured liquid nitrogen down it. It was strange that his respiratory system had yet to really adjust to the weather, but he knew that by tomorrow the chance in the air pressure and temperature would no longer have any effect on him. His animal knew how to survive even in the harshest conditions of mountain ranges in the winter time so there was no need to worry about his health remaining as close to top form as possible. The woman however caused him some grief. He had felt like an old maid that day; constantly glancing over his shoulder to make sure she was not struggling or to see that she ate and drank enough to keep her energy up. It was possibly the most exhausting part of the trek; however, for him it seemed like the most important. After all, she had given the final decision to him whether or not she was to come along on the trip to their sister tribe and he had agreed to take her instead of banning her to his house like the dominant male instincts told him to. Conflictions within himself were what led to her coming along with him so there was really no one else to blame unless he wanted to start pointing the finger at her for causing him to be indecisive for once. It felt as if within a few days, his entire world had changed. Around her, the man actually cared about what he did and how he was perceived. Feylnx was also one of the few who could actually claim to have his concern for their safety. Sure, in his role as a Chosen, he protected the entire tribe and basically their race, but for the individuals he had no affection or thoughts. They were simply the weak who needed to be taken care of by the strong. It was the circle of life that had always existed and would remain long after he passed into the spirit realm and joined his real brothers and sisters: the past hosts for the cat. They would be the only ones who could truly understand him even though there was a time when he believed that other Chosen would be able to relate. Bricaza had been one of the first he had sought out to make a connection with and after discreetly courting her for years; the damsel seemed to change and parted ways with him after the exchange of some very heated words in the old language. Bitterness about that time still resided within him, but slowly he had begun to question whether it was entirely the woman’s fault. What if perhaps it had been him that had changed instead of her? Now, he was almost certain of this though she had not remained the same innocent girl that he had known as a child either. He had changed, like she said, and would never be the same again even if he wanted to be. Sighing, he closed his eyes after hearing her uttered goodnight, but did not reply. He hoped she would not take offense, but at the moment he was not interested in exchanging any further words. Instead, he focused on trying to let his mind slip off into slumber, but after a few hours had passed by with the climate dropping to a degree below zero and the lass sound asleep in her bag, the lord remained awake, laying on his side and staring out into the darkness. Bored, he shifted from his position facing the cave opening and turned to face the lady, watching her as she slept although he could hardly see her at all, but he was comforted by the fact that he had watched her climb into the sleeping bag and had been awake ever since so nothing could have stolen her in the night nor could she have wandered off. After a short while, he saw her body begin to shake involuntarily, a reaction from the cold as she slept, so he got up and moved silently to the foot of her makeshift bed them spread the blankets over her. For the rest of the time till daybreak, he simply lay wide awake, thinking of nothing and everything till he got fed up and decided it was warm enough to go out and find some breakfast before she had ever woken up. Going out into the forest where he was still within screaming distance of her, he found unfertilized bird's eggs then made his way to the river where he caught a fish with his bare hands by standing partway in the stream and reaching out to grasp the slippery body within his tight grip. Once back at camp, he used his skinning knife to fillet the fish while the eggs fried on the pan he had brought over another cooking fire he had built. Breakfast was ready by the time she woke and he handed her the plate when she came out of the cave already dressed and ready for the next day. He urged her to eat quickly by finishing in record time himself then stood and started to pack up what was lingering around the camp. Once everything was accounted for, he swung on his pack and turned to her, holding out hers as he stopped in front of her. Time to move out. This time, they did not need the snow shoes because there had not been a fresh storm the night before to let powder linger so instead they could walk without much trouble. About an hour into the hike, Kat noticed that his pace was weak and slower than usual to the point where he was starting to fall behind the lady when he was the one who was supposed to be leading. In order to adjust this, he pushed himself further for the next hour, but after the third hour of the day he was nearly ready to fall down. Moody and frustrated, he knew that his lack of sleep was what attributed to this change in character for him so he pulled up short as they came to an edge of one clearing where a thick covering of trees and brush from the forest line directly to the left of them provided enough shelter. I need to break. I'm going to take a cats nap and I want you to wake me up in an hour. That should not take too much time out of our schedule. We'll still reach the other campground before nightfall. Moving into the trees, he found a section of ground that was relatively clear and took off his pack before laying down, using the bag as a pillow of sorts while trying to get to sleep. Constantly, he woke himself up just before drifting off because he heard a twig snap and had to make sure the girl was ok. Groaning, he sat up then looked at her with dark, brooding eyes in almost a glare. Come here. He ordered while looking as if a dark storm was forming all around him. Once she came closer, he reached up and gently took a hold of her arm then pulled her down to sit next to him, only then letting to and stretching out to try and sleep again. Having her this close was a little better and yet; it was not enough to get him to sleep. As a last attempt, Kat repositioned himself till he was facing her then in a swift move threw his arm around her waist and urged her towards him till he could feel her body against his own. Letting head fall down, half of his cheek rested upon her thigh and the other part on his pack and with lids closed, he sighted heavily, feeling as if no words were needed to explain his actions. She was his wife after all even if only until they returned to the reservation and he would exploit that for the comfort it provided when he needed it. Finally contented that he would be able to get to her in enough time to get her behind him so he could defend them both if any of the Cold Ones came along, the man slipped off to get some much needed rest.

She hated that she would always be seen as a hassle and weak since she was a human. She might not be an immortal though that did not mean that she needed to be protected all the time, there were a lot of humans that were out there that were able to stand up for themselves and she knew that she was one of them. No, she might not stand a chance against a vampire but she hated that he felt as though he was going to have to baby sit her and he felt as though he had to check on her the entire way up the mountain and make sure that she was eating and drinking enough, he had enough to worry about without babysitting her. She wished that she had just stayed back at the cabin in which they had been staying not because she found any of this hard but because she could see the strain that it was putting on him. She was starting to be able to see the lines that were gathering on his face from the stress that was resting on his shoulders and she felt helpless since he seemed content to push her away right now. Something had sparked such a change in him from the time that they had been starting to get close and he was starting to allow her to become a permanent fixture in his life until now where she felt like she was nothing but an outsider once again. She could not allow it to bother her though since she needed to get sleep and keep her strength up for the coming days that she knew would be gruelling and would test her physically though she knew that she had a good base to stand on since she was quite fit and rather hardy unlike a lot of the girls of the tribe that were used to just being inside and sewing and cooking she had been the outdoorsy type that spent more time hiking and in her case riding and jogging and walking in the large forest. It was getting a lot colder outside though she had taken the time to make sure that she warmed the air that was tucked against her in the sleeping bag and she was wearing enough clothes that it was rather comfortable temperature for now at least and she wanted to be asleep when the real drop in the temperature would happen so that it would not feel as bad and she hoped that it would not wake her up as she closed her eyes and hoped that sleep would find her soon. She lay there for a long time listening to the man breathing over on the other side of the cave and judged by the rythm he was not asleep either though he did not seem very content to speak at the moment so she just stayed silent. The night sounds of the forest were also apparent and that was in the end what lulled her to sleep. Even when she had been shivering she had not noticed. She awoke when there was a dull stream of light shooting through the cave. Even though she had been sleeping on the hard floor all night she felt pretty decent as she stretched before getting out of the sleeping bag and chosing some clothes from her pack and taking the time that she knew that man would not be entering to change into different clothes before walking out of the cave to the opening where he had prepared the food the night before and he offered her what looked like an omelet and a small smile of thanks was offered before she dug into the food. She knew that she was going to need all the strength that was possible for the second leg of their journey. No words passed between the two of them as they ate and this time she managed to grab the cutlery and bowls from him and take them in the direction of the running water and wash them before jogging back up the hill to where they had stayed for the night and packing them away in the pack before getting ready to leave their camp and nodding when he told her that it was time to head out. With her pack settled onto her back they set off on the trail and she kept a good pace, stopping only for a moment to grab her bottle of water before then treking on. Her eyes were mostly down as her thoughts went rampid and she did not even notice how much time had passed before words were uttered from the male and made her jump. She had even trailed out ahead of him in the lead by a little. He told her that he needed a break and that he was going to take a nap. He must not have slept well the night before since he looked like crap and she had not seen him like this before. She nodded when he told her to wake him up in an hour and she looked to her wrist to the watch that her father had bought her for her 16th birthday. Timing out when an hour would be she settled with her back pressed up against a tree trunk with legs out in front of her stretching the tight muscles that resided there. Arms were raised above her head and rested against the back of the tree as a makeshift pillow as she thought of ways to pass the next hour while he napped. She did not think it would be a good idea for her even to attempt to do something useful since she knew that his hearing was too sensitive for her to even to move much and that he would be perturbed if she wandered off since they were getting close to where the last sighting of the vampires were. He looked as though he was about to fall asleep when then something snapped a twig and eyes flickered open once more. He looked frustrated and in a horrible mood when with a glare he ordered her to come over to him. She debated a defiant act and telling him this was ridiculous though she was not going to push it with the demeanor he seemed to adopt. He attemped again to sleep when she was just close but that did not seem to be enough. She was suprised when she was being pulled closer though she did not retract from the closeness with him that she now found that she craved. His cheek rested on he thigh and she sat lightly cross legged so it provided a comfortable position for him. She tried her best to stay as still as possible to not disturb him as she noticed that his breathing levelled into a sleep. Eyes scan the surroundings to make sure that there was nothing out of place and everything seemed to stay the same for the entire hour that he planned to be sleeping. When the hour had passed she then grasped his shoulder gently with a small nudge. It's been an hour Kat. She told him before allowing gentle hands to run along the shoulder that was exposed to her kneading the tense muscles there knowing that the man carried a lot of tension in his shoulders with all the responsibilities placed on him, she felt bad about that since she knew that it took a toll on him as she had seen today. I want you to know that if you ever want to talk about anything I am willing to listen, even if it is to just get it off your shoulders, I can tell things have been bothering you. Sincere look reached eyes before hers met dark pair with a concerned expression though she knew she would likely just get pushed away by him again though that did not deter her since at least she had tried. When he got up she did the same settling the backpack onto her shoulders again and getting ready to hike as he did the same before they set off again.

At first, when he had called her over to him, the male had thought nothing of giving the order. He had done it to many over the years and whether out of fear or respect, they had listened. But those he was used to demanding such unwavering obedience from were nothing to him. They meant nothing more than a grain of salt in the grand scheme of things and she was not among their number. No, she was his wife and really, he had no right to order her about like a servant. The defiant light in her eyes made him regret his words and question whether she would even come to him at all now, but she must have recognized the look in his depths or seen the need in his expression because without a protest, she came closer much to his relief. Relaxing once more, it did not take him long to realize that just having her a foot away was enough. There was something within him that called for the closeness of touch with her so he had reached out for her, once more reacting without thinking. She at first seemed startled, and he froze, his mind alert despite the aching call of dreamland, but she did not pull away so he allowed himself to relax into a state that welcomed sleep once more, pleased even that she did not reject his touch. Sleep came easily after that; a restful sleep that returned all the energy the shifter had been lacking when they started out that morning. It was amazing to him that he would actually be able to think of napping and therefore leaving himself, and her, vulnerable to attacks, but he was confident in his ability to react quickly if anything were to disturb them. Kat remained very still in his sleep except for once when he repositioned his body subconsciously to where it would be easier to push her behind him and closer to the safety of the thick woods while he stood between her and whatever danger was threatening them. Decades seemed to pass by within the hour that he was asleep, but the instant her hand touched his shoulder he was awake and completely alert. Still, because he liked the feel of her warm palm on his body even if it was meant in a courteous gesture used universally to wake someone from their slumber, he pretended to wake slowly, which progressed with even less urgency when her voice called out to him. When her hands began working at the tense muscles along his broad width, he entertained the thought of relaxing fully once more with his cheek on her thigh just so she would not stop the massage, but he knew the consequences that doing so would leave. He was already taking enough of a chance by wasting just an hour for rest. Recognizing this, he sat up slowly, and rather reluctantly, so as to not startle her. One hand braced against the ground as depths met hers and she spoke, telling him she was there to listen if he needed to talk. Briefly, he glanced away, starting to shut himself off from her again as he was reminded of the dangers of allowing someone to get too close, but his cougar's spirit kept the man from shutting off all pathways entirely and after reasoning with himself he realized that treating her as he had was not fair to her. Sighing, he looked back to her then shifted uncomfortably beneath her gaze while struggling to form words. It is not within my nature to talk much. He replied to her in a quiet, almost neutral tone. Surely that would come as no surprise to her. After being with him for a mere four days, even a dumb brute would be able to recognize the lack of speech and Feylnx was far from being an idiot. Even though he had made it clear he had no intention of saying anything further on the subject, the lord remained where he was, thinking about something that obviously bothered him before sincere pools lifted to find her hazel liquids again. I apologize for earlier. I did not mean to order you about. Words flowed out swiftly as if he was worried they would never break past his lips and the instant they had, he was standing, retrieving his pack from the floor and refastening it onto his back. They started out once more and hiked for a few hours till they came to their first steep climb where the bloke instantly dropped back till he was walking behind the woman just in case she lost her footing or needed help making it up the hillside. He did not see her as a hassle or something put in his way to slow him down, rather he enjoyed having someone along with which to hike. Even without exchanging words or only conversing a little, it made the trip much more enjoyable to be able to look behind him and see the lady taking in her surroundings perhaps seeing the beauty that he found out here. After a while, he began to let his hard mask sink away to the background and would point out this and that to her. Once they had come upon the tracks of a bear and because it was rare to see one active this late in the season, he had stopped their progress to show her the distinctive markings in the snow that its feet had left behind. Any questions she had, he answered to the best of his ability and tried to make the time that passed by more bare able although he knew she had to be getting tired and weary after so much hiking. They stopped after making it over the mountain at a stream for lunch which consisted of beef jerky and protein bars that he had packed in his pack for such occasions. Once they were both finished, he allowed them to linger for a little longer before telling her they needed to move on. It was maybe three in the afternoon when they reached the camping spot that Kat had used often enough on his trips out here that he had memorized its exact position. It was here that he intended for them to stay until his prey came to him because it was in the clearing that humans would have no trouble reaching in a few days hike just as they had. Enlisting her help, he got out the tent that he had packed in her bag then began to set it up with thick foliage at its back to act as a natural blockade from the strong, icy winds. Once everything was settled there, he got out the pot and started a fire then handed her a package of coffee grinds that she could use to make the hot drink for them with the fire while he hunted. As a hunter in his beast's form, he found a young, lone doe in the woods and had easy success in killing her then switch into his human frame to cut out prime chunks of meat that could be useful both as dinner that night, breakfast in the morning, and perhaps lunch and, if they stretched it, dinner the next night then left the rest of the carcass for other predators to take. He might have taken his whole kill to the campsite if he was not worried about it attracting unwanted attention from hungry wildlife such as the bear whose tracks they had seen not long ago. Strong he might be and a capable fighter, but he was in no mood to battle with a hungry bear and certainly did not want to kill the creature unnecessarily. That was not who he had come here for. On his way back to their campsite, he found a few plants whose roots could be eaten much like vegetables and gathered them for dinner that night, deciding they could be boiled with the meat. He returned and strung up the meat he did not intend for them to eat that night in a tree nearby with some string he had brought along for this purpose then set about slicing up the section he had kept separate for their dinner that night with his hunting knife, sitting beside the fire and using a smooth bolder to do so.

She wondered if he could tell that she was rather agitated the entire time he lay there with his head on her leg and tried his best to sleep. She had even debated not coming when he demanded that she did so though they did not need to fight when there was no way that she would be able to get back to the house and they were in such close quarters out in the wilderness. Luckily with the time that he was laying there and looking so peaceful she had enough time to cool down and by the time she was to wake him up she was completely over it. She was the type that needed nothing but time to get over things and did not tend to get too upset over things unless they were a large deal, strange for a girl, she had never been the type to be involved in too much drama even when the rest of the girls of the tribe were always trying to ruffle her feathers. She had grown to realize that what bothered them the most was the fact that they did not get the best of her, one thing that her father had always been right about when he had been talking to her about her school issues. To think that all of it was to do with her mother as well, there was nothing that she could do to change what her mother had done and she was being affected by it. This was a reason why she resented the lady so much and had no want to see her. When she woke him up he did not startle like she might have expected though she knew that he was more alert than anyone else as he slept even when in the deepest slumber he would be able to be awake within a matter of milliseconds it was just hardwired into the predators brain in order to keep him safe and alive. He did not jerk up and get to his feet right away he seemed to be basking in the massage she was giving him. Tension slowly being relieved from the man's shoulders. She seemed to be very forgiving since all the hostility that had previously inhabited her facade was completely gone. His eyes met hers when she spoke and the moment that the words were in the air she regretted them knowing that he would shut down to her and that there was no way that he would ever confide in her. When he finished and told her that he was not one to talk she nodded. Fine. She uttered before getting to her feet and ready to start hiking again, body was starting to feel weary now that they had been walking steady for two days now. Just before they stepped out onto the trail as she was picking her pack off the ground his words caused her to jump a little before gaze was then lifted to meet his as he apologized for earlier when he had been a little demanding. It's fine. She assured him before moving to the trail and stepping out as easily as she could being as stiff as she was starting to feel. She kept the pace up though and as soon as her muscles seemed to warm up it got a little better, when they reached a steep ledge he dropped behind her and she was about to tell him that it was fine and that she did not need that though that would just get him upset so she scaled the rock easily before the ground flattened out. From there on he made a point to comment on certain things that he observed in area as they moved different kinds of tracks that she knew might go unseen and other parts of the scenery that took her mind off the fact that she was starting to grow weary. They arrived on a large ledge and it appeared this would be the place that they would be camping, she helped the assembly of the tent before then dropping her bag in the bottom of it, he passed her coffee grinds to cook on the fire to make them drinks before going out to hunt and she set up the sleeping bags in the tent. Getting out the thermal wear that she planned on wearing to bed. The coffee was finished just as he arrived back with the meal and she handed him a cup before he set to work cooking, she leaned back on a large rock watching the man before organizing the plates when the food was ready. The meal was tasteful and filling and she felt much better as they then moved into the tent, even with him in the room she quickly changed into the other clothes before stepping out to go to the washroom close to the tent but behind the cover of trees before then returning to go to bed, feeling every ache of her body. It was starting to get cold so she climbed into the sleeping bag already placing the extra blanket over her and shivering but that made her feel a little better. Can I sleep closer to you? It will be warmer. She felt awkward trying to justify this to her husband though she felt as though she had to ask.

The cup of coffee that she offered to him the moment he had returned from the hunting episode was accepted gratefully although only a nod of appreciation was given. After taking a long drink where the warm liquid refreshed his esophagus and created a warm feeling in his stomach that spread throughout his abdomen, the man set the cup aside, licking his lips to retain the taste of the drink before turning his attention to the meat and roots he had gathered for their meal. As could be expected from a man with his reputation, he could feel the lady's eyes on him as he sliced the meat and chopped their fibrous additives, but was not subconscious about how he looked even though he wondered what she was thinking. Knife strokes remained precise and smooth as if nothing in the world could deter him from this task though he knew that there were multiple things that could distract him one of them being the lass who sat only a few feet away watching him almost like a predator would their prey. Upon finishing, he dumped the roots, which he had sliced the protective outer coating off of till they looked closer to a radish sort of food, into the now boiling water in the pot that had been replenished after Feylnx had cooked their coffee and for the meat, he stood and approached a sapling with strong limbs. He cut one of the smaller branches from the stock and proceeded back to the campsite where one end was sharpened to a point. The meat chucks were pressed onto the make-shift skewer and held over the fire by the man so he could rotate it when necessary and cook all sides. When their meal was almost done, his companion busied herself getting out plates and silverware from her pack and his liquids slowly moved from the fire and meat to see as she moved about. Thinking back on the day, he recognized with adequate surprise that he had been friendlier to her over the second half of the day then he was accustomed to being even to his parents for whom his love could not be denied. Whatever the source may be: the atmosphere of the mountains, his guilt from the morning when he had ordered her about, or perhaps both, Kat was not sure what to think of his manners or how to proceed. Now that it was accepted, he could easily find a way to deter himself from continuing such interaction, but he was reluctant to do so. After all, it was not fair for her to choose to come out here with him only to have him make the trip all the more miserable because he refused to be at least slightly pleasant company. Attention returned to the meal as he took the pot off the flame and, using the tip of his knife, carefully removed the meat from the stake to place it on the plates. The food was steaming at first, but given the current weather it did not take the cooked morsels to cool off enough to where they could be eaten without causing damage to taste buds. It was not overly flavorful, but it was the sort of meal that the shifter as an accustomed traveler and hiker was used to and it was enough to keep their strength up. Once they both had finished, he took the responsibility of cleaning out the dishes and leaving them to dry just inside of the tent as he came inside to find that she had already set up their sleeping arrangements. Almost immediately after he had entered, she began to change and to give her some privacy, he turned his head away and took off his hiking boots, placing them beside the dishes so they would not get water in them over night. Once finished, he stripped out of his daily clothes and dressed in thermal gear comfortable enough for sleeping before taking the chance and turning back to find her already tucked into her sleeping bag with one of the blankets he had brought along draped over her. Knowing it was going to be cold tonight, he was just about to advise her to use all of the blankets when her small voice came out, asking if she could sleep closer to him. Freezing because he knew instantly that he wanted her more than just closer, but in the sleeping bag with him pressed skin to skin, the drake took some time to compose himself till his blood was under control and he was able to think logically. Nodding, he made his way towards his own sleeping bag and paused just before climbing into it. Sleeping in separate bags would not allow them to share body heat and although he knew that even entertaining the idea was dangerous, it was the only option if he wanted to be certain that she would not freeze in the night. Unlike him, frost bite would be something that could have serious consequences for her whereas if he got frostbite, it would merely be a few days of enduring pain on whatever limb it had manifested. Sighing, he crouched onto his heels and stared down at her for a moment before moving closer. Get up. Soft tunes told her, the man only hesitating once he realized that once again he was issuing an order. Please. After adding the request for her sake, he waited for her to consent then unzipped both of their bags then laid one on top of the other and zipped them together, adding the blankets over top to be sure that she would be warm enough. Once finished, he moved to the side closest to her and unzipped a portion of the sleeping bag. Then, holding it out for her, he jerked his head towards their new sleeping arrangements while feeling ridiculous as he waited for her to get in. After she had settled in, he zipped her side back up then moved to get between the sleeping bags, keeping his back to her while shoulders remained tense and shades refused to close. He was all too aware of how close she was and the proximity, although expected, was wreaking havoc on his blood pressure as he fought to control the masculine claim his primitive half felt he should rightfully take.

While she did not really drink coffee a lot when she was back in the house and in the tribelands just the fact that it was a warm drink and full of caffeine was a plus for her and the way that she was starting to feel from the hike, she knew that the bitter cold was not helping since she could feel her body struggling to maintain the core body temperature that was essential for survival. The scorching liquid warmed all the way through her core, she sat silently and watched the man cook though not in a way that was invasive, simply for the lack of better things to do right now. And when he was finished she had already gathered the cutlery and bowls that they needed to eat and like the night before she was not suprised that he was a good cook for what he had to work with and the food although rather tasteless was satisfying. It warmed her as well and she was starting to feel a lot better now. So when he had excused himself to go wash the dishes she ruffled through the bags until she was able to set up their sleeping arrangements before he returned and was already getting changed, she noticed that he did not even look in her direction when she changed and while she knew that the male was just trying to be polite she wondered what she had done to change him, after all they were still a married couple that had seen eachother naked, did she not impress him anymore? This brought her stomach to feel as though it was sinking into a pitt of quick sand and she did not ever want to admit this. As he changed she crawled into the sleeping bag just to discover that even with the added blankets she knew that she was not going to be warm enough considering how cold it was that night, she was sure that if she looked outside it would be snowing and the wind was starting to pick up. She hated that she felt as though she was being a wimp when she asked if he would be able to come and sleep closer to her. He looked as though he was debating something as he sat there poised as if he was ready to move at any moment though he had not made up his mind. Soon enough though he had crossed the distance to her and although the words were soft as he told her to 'get up' the demanding nature made her cringe a little before she stood and heard that he added a please to the end of it. She stood easily when he then took the two bags and unzipped them from either end to only attach them so that they were a larger area between the two before climbing in himself and unzipping a portion for her to join him. He lay away from her, with his back to her and a small sigh was uttered, so different from when he had been napping earlier in the day though she knew that with this she would not be able to fall into a sleep so she would take her chances. They were completely in the dark and he was facing away from her but she was still able to guess he was just laying there and he was no where close to sleep. Come here Kat, please. She uttered gently a small plea left in her voice, waiting to see if he would comply or not but before he did, tender hands moved to the mans shoulder blades with all intentions of a massage that she felt he deserved after all the tension from the days travels and keeping her safe and not being able to sleep. She just wished to provide the man as well as she possibly could and so far he seemed to enjoy the stress relieving gesture, she shifted closer until they were nearly touching and she was sure that body heat would be felt off her body as well as from his, running fingers down the tense muscles of his neck the knots that formed with tension and stress were kneaded gently before running farther down his shoulders and triceps and working in a circular pattern. She waited for any sign that he was not enjoying it. Fingers stopped at his upper back since he was wearing thermal attire. After awhile like that a brave light kiss was placed on the back of his neck before she rolled onto her back and allowed head to rest on her pillow and eyes start to close though sleep was not on her side either.

Muscles remained as supple as stone while the man tried to settle down to sleep, forcing the thoughts of the woman right next to him to the back of his mind. Regardless of his determination to not think of her however, in the end she always came back to the front of his mind and it was not hard to understand how. Every breath she took, although it may have been as quiet as a whisper, came to his ears as a foghorn that screamed of her close proximity. In a typical response, the man became very irritated and slowly a dark cloud of moodiness began to gather around him as he accepted the fact that he was not going to get any sleep. Knowing that he could not leave even after she had fallen asleep only made matters worse because he felt like a caged animal and no one ever kept him under any sort of restraints. Had he been more wrapped up in his own brooding, he might not have heard the woman's soft plea, but because he was so attune to her, the words asking him to come to her hit him like an ocean wave in the chest; knocking the breath out of him and bringing all thought to a standstill. Freezing almost to the point where he was holding his breath, Kat debated complying with what she asked of him, knowing that he could not really refuse although his mind told him that he should. Before any movement could be made though the feel of her hands massaging his muscles like they had been earlier that day interrupted his decision making process. Tensing even further at first, his frame fought against the will of the touch, but it was pointless to resist for within the next few moments, his entire carcass had ceased to hold its rigid state and in exchange now was sort of leaning against the palms that worked with didgets to soothe the ache in his connective tissues. Lids slide over surfaces while a sigh escaped from lungs: signs that he was completely trusting in this lady's care of him as he seemed calm enough to finally let sleep take over. When her hands left his back, he felt an odd sort of longing to have them back, but did not revert back to his old statue like position and acknowledged that she, like him, was probably tired as well and certainly did not have all night to keep massaging him like she was so he thought nothing of it and resolved to let her get the shut eye that she needed. What came next in the form of a quick kiss to his neck that might have been over looked by any regular Joe jolted the shifter out of the relaxed state, his liquids suddenly wide and alert as he grappled with the display of affection. Within two heartbeats, he had moved with his beast's swiftness at his aid till he loomed over her; body pressing up against hers while extended arms that braced against the earth kept his heavy torso from squishing her. Dark pair were hard to see in the night, but with the intensity of his stare, there would be no doubt in her mind that he was looking down at her with nothing else on his mind. He held onto his control by just a thread, knowing that within the next few moments that tiny grasp he had on it could be broken with just a movement or word from her. Working desperately to rein himself back in and deny the body what it wanted, he practiced a few breathing exercises, taking a long inhale and exhale multiple times while never once moving from his spot. After a short time, the drake deemed himself sane enough and with thought processes renewed, rolled his body from on top of hers till he was laying on his side beside her with skin still pressed against skin. Taking her chin into his large palm, the man guided her mouth towards his in the dark and kissed her gently, pleased with his own ability to submerge the bestial cravings in the deepest pit of his stomach. Breaking off the kiss, he released another breath and shifted his weight back till back rested against the ground and then, after snaking his one arm beneath her body and moving the other to encircle her waist, he pulled her over till she was halfway on top of him and halfway off with a vast majority of her body still coming in contact with the earth beneath them, but where upper torso and her head was conveniently resting against his chest as if it were a pillow. Holding her there without saying anything, the lord let himself drift off to sleep, leaving her to follow along behind him. They would not need to wake up early in the morning because Kat had no further hiking planned for them until the deed was done and they made the trip to return, but he would not allow them to sleep all through the day mostly because it left them vulnerable to an attack and also decreased their chances of being found out by the other immortals. If they got up and moved around, sightseeing around the campsite that he had chosen for them to stay at for perhaps the rest of the time they were on the mountain, there would be a more likely chance that their scent would be drifted along the wind. As expected, he woke up in the morning before her and very carefully removed himself from her warmth in order to dress quickly in clothing for the day before going out of the tent with the pot he had brought along in order to go down to the running river he had seen the day before while hunting to get some water so it would be cleaner than two day old snow to cook with. It only took a few minutes for him to reach his destination and as he bent down to fill up the pot, he suddenly knew that he had been followed. Cursing his stupidity at allowing this to happen, he tried to act like nothing was wrong and slowly stood up, aware thanks to his predator senses that the stalker whom he could only deduce was one of the vampires that he had come here for had not advanced towards him since he had come to a stop. Turning quickly, he found himself face to face with a demon whose eyes blazed with a hungry yet curious light as they watched him from twenty feet away, the creature standing eerily still as if not alive, which, in Kat's eyes, he wasn't. Looking around him briefly without really taking his attention from the threat in front of him, the duke decided that there was only this Cold One nearby which led him to wonder where the others were, how many there were, and how they had found them. The last thought that crossed his mind before the stranger spoke with a Spanish accent was that he had left Feylnx asleep and unprotected in their tent.

The tension that lined the spine of the male that lay beside her was nearly unbearable. There was no way he would be able to fall into a slumber in his current state and that was not fair since she felt as though she had a lot to do with it. A small sigh left the girls slightly parted kissers and with how low the temperature had dropped there was a small mist in which she was able to see the smallest of particles floating just mere inches in front of her face, even in the dark. As she lay there she thought of how it would not be possible for him to become any more tense and then it happened, he looked as though he was getting irritated though she was not able to see facial expressions with his back to her. She felt horrible that he felt as though he was not able to get up and move around because that would leave her ungaurded, she was sure that she would be fine though she was not going to utter those words to him and provoke the wrath that she knew that was condescent of his mood. When she uttered for him to come to her it was as if in that moment and time everything stopped, the males breathing and small motions that your body carried out without your knowledge stopped, the night in which there was small rustlings of woodland animals and the sound of snow falling off the heavy ladden branches of the trees all chose that moment to become completely still and she was sure that if there was a pin dropped in the room it would seem as loud as an orchestra. He seemed to be fighting with himself wondering whether or not he should listen to her request though she would make sure to give him the time to think about that as palms found the tender spots in the man's muscular physique. Her father always used to tell her that she should become a masseuse since she enjoyed making other people feel better and she would rub his shoulders for him on the days that he had been out working hard. Hands started at the base of his neck for the tricep muscles that lay there he seemed even more tense though she ignored this, it was simply because he seemed to not be used to having the girls hands on him. Soon enough he was relaxed and muscles started to release. Even though he was a shifter she was sure that he would be sore from the trip as well especially with the lack of sleep the night before, a small nap that afternoon would not be enough for him. She was able to keep up with the massage for the better part of forty minutes though by then her hands ached, even when she stopped he stayed nearly as relaxed as he had been during the massage which brought a small smile to her features. She was content to just leave it with that before uttering a small kiss to the man's neck in a good night gesture. She had barely enough time to even lay back on her pillow and settle herself for sleep before the gesture had caused him to jump to action propping himself above her. Body warmth between them mingled as her entire body seemed to touch his and a small grin was shot in his direction and cheeky glimmer to hazel coloured eyes. Although eyes were dark she was sure that she was able to see te lust within nearly ebony pools. With a devious gesture a palm ran along the males abdomen, over the taught muscles found there knowing that he was already clinging to the control that was so brittle. He seemed to be focusing on his breathing now and calming himself, eyes scan what little of rigid features she was able to depict in the darkness. He then rolled off where he had been hovering overtop of her to be laying beside her again. They were still touching and the feeling of being so close to him was electric, every nerve ending seemed to be on fire, but not in a burning way but a soft subtle warmth of everywhere they had been in contact. Suprise was evident as his hand moved to encircle her face and pull her gently towards him, lips coming in contact with his briefly. It was finished much sooner then she would have wished but she was not about to push her luck. This side of the shifter was rarely seen and therefore savoured as his arm encircled her waist pulling her over top of him, shoulders were just touching the mans abdomen and she shifted lightly until she was comfortable with head on his chest, able to hear the blood pumping through his heart and cycling through his entire body, it was a soothing noise. He fell asleep for once before her though she followed not too far away as eyes were allowed to droop and dreams were welcomed into her mind that had been previously plagued with worries. For the first time there was a main character in her dream and it was not her father or any friends. A large tawny beast as Kat had been in the night after they first met was close at her side, bushes whipped past as nothing but veridian blurs, feet or whatever was carrying her were so fast and yet never missed a beat, never stumbling or falling over the rocky and treacherous terrain. The cat bounded beside her as a silent gaurdian slowing when she finally did so and the thing that she seemed to notice the most was the silent communication between the two of them, the trust that passed between them and utter admiration, that was how she knew this was a dream seeing as the male rarely opened himself up to her enough to be able to trust her. The entire dream passed with aimless wandering and suddenly dropped off when she awoke to a noise of hushed whispers and just a sickening feeling when she noticed that Kat was no longer in bed beside her she began to wonder, since it was not his voice that she had heard. Call it intuition or a woman's danger sense but she was able to tell when something was not going right. She could see a small fire going at the flap of the tent but she was able to tell that it was uninhabited. Entire body went rigid when she spotted motion at the front of the tent, something so graceful it was impossible that they were mortal, it was no question one of the vampires. Now what did they have for weapons inside the tent, she knew that she only had limited amount of time. The only thing she could spot was the wooden stake that secured the tent to the ground, she debated how she was going to rip that out of the ground in a record breaking time without taking the rest of the tent with her. But there all of a sudden was no more time to think, the presence of the vampire was unsettling, she lunged for the stake and managed to pry it free, ripping the tent with her and managing to scramble out, the entire tent swayed and collapsed on the vampire had she not been so terrified and running on adrenaline she might have felt a small feeling of triumph. The vampire thrashed trying to escape the constraints of the tent though it would be nearly impossible to find the exit and the creature thrashed ripping the whole roof off the tent and becoming trapped in the folds of the fabric. The more it moved the tighter it wrapped, when it finally was able to get to its feet it was only on its feet for a moment before the lack of sight caused the creature to trip and fall directly on top of the fire, how lucky had Fey gotten? Now it looked as though she had taken the creature out when in reality she had done nothing more then grabbed for the stake and gotten out of the tent, she did not have that much time to think of all this, besides knowing that the roof would cave in and most people would panic and that the stakes that held the bottom portion would not give way. She did not have time to stick around and wait to see what happened though now the vampire was motionless over the flames that had engulfed the entire fabric, she cringed with the yelps and noises before flight took over and long strides carry her along the mountain path. With what had just happened she needed to find Kat to make sure he was ok, of course she had faith in him knowing he was much too smart and observational to not realize that something had been sneaking up on him. The adrenaline had worn off and now the screams of the vampire trapped in the flames were starting to get to her and she thought she heard a crash in the bush and took off at a sprint, panick running through her veins, blood pumping wildly through her entire body, she regretted not having followed Kat to the water source the night before and having no idea where it was or where he was, though she was blind to all of this right now. She ran until she stepped between a rocky crack and her foot was stuck between two rocks, her boot being wrenched off her foot and the sharp rock slicing the bottom of her foot causing her to leave a couple bloody footprints, but she ripped her boot from the rock and put it back on her foot before then spotting a large tree that she could settle in since she was now weary hidden beneath the branches she would have the upperhand if something were to find her plus she still had the large wooden stake, if there was a vampire after her she was sure that they would be able to catch her so why not stay still. She scaled the tree careful to position her foot where it would hurt the least and reach high up in the branches before settling down to sit there.

"You are foolish to have wandered here into the hunting grounds of my family. I do not welcome impure predators in my midst." The greeting was delivered with a thick voice and hungry eyes that never detered their attention from the male; the other's body just as inhuman as it had been seconds ago although somehow it appeared as if the Cold One had moved closer though Kat knew such would be impossible as he had seen neither legs move nor feet plant themselves upon new ground and his own gaze was locked in battle with his opponient. Mind was laced with worry which blocked out the anticipation of a fight and left him weaker, more vulenerable, to an attack that he might not be able to counter with adequate strength. Reminding himself of this danger, he fought to banish the woman from his mind, contented by the territorial attitude that this vampire was presenting. No one like him who was as possessive would allow another to take a kill or even reside within lands which were considered to be owned by him. This much the Choosen knew from the experiences with his own beast. The tan ghost did not appreciate compeition in his mountains. Shifting the weight of the pot in his hand, he refused to set it down or allow any of the water to escape just yet and instead thought of ways in which this extension could come in handy. The ways in which to kill a Cold One were well known to him although the easiest and most obvious solutions were unavalible. Nearest source of fire which he knew of resided back at camp and that was too far plus he did not wish to lure the creature who fed off the blood of mortals to the one woman who was his own, but the fallen limbs around him could serve as a possible stake to the heart however, the shifter worried he would expose himself to long to attack if he made such a play. No reply was made to his opponent. He merely lifted his upper lip in a sneer and settled into a defensive position, awaiting the other to make the first move. It was not like him to play the pacifist, but in this instance he needed to leech time from the air and by forcing the other to be the aggressor, he could do just that. The first blow came without warning. One moment the living dead was standing in front of him and the next he was charging, moving as the force that defied all nature. Kat dodged to the left, swinging his arm to make the pot to collide with the stranger's head with nearly all of his strength. Once it was at full momentum, he let loose of the handle and began to move around, keeping his chest facing the opponient like a prized fighter would. The pot had been a surprise for the other because he let out an exclamation then dropped back, looking around for the thing that had struck him before realizing that his intended prey was still standing and unharmed. Stone face twisted into a revolting grimace and then he came at the shifter again. This time, the male dropped to the earth and using his legs, met the other's stride with hands upon his shoulders to throw him over his head. Knowing he only had a short time, the bloke initated the change, convincing his body to divert to the beastial form as quickly as possible. Within seconds, which was a record for him, he was on all four paws and launching himself at the vampire who had already begun to recover and was scrambling towards him. A loud hiss exited from cavern as jaws parted wide and whiskers wiggled from the effort of his upper lip unshething knives. Heavy mass collided with his target and brought it to the ground. The man no longer controlled movements as the lion took over, quickly latching his powerful jaws across their challengers neck and ripping his head from the body with a jerk of buldging neck tissues. There was no time for screaming or any dramatics. Instead it was a silent death, the type Kat enjoied most. Like the quiet killer, the cougar left his stance over the alien's body and took his head across the river front, following the scent that tingled his nostrils and willed him towards their next destination. Lost within his own body, the human simply allowed the ride to happen, trusting in the other spirit's wisdom and never threatening the control that was so tight upon his mind. They quickly came upon the camp site by way of another root and he was surprised to find that their tent was set aflame. Renewed panic gripped him and for the first time, he pushed himself into his beast's mind to be met with strange leniance that allowed him to share the animal spirit's thoughts. They had followed the scent of another Cold One, a female, here. What had happened was nearly a mystery although it was obvious that Feylnx was no longer around. Where she had run off to was the next his mind wanted to solve and so he began searching the site for the trail she would have left behind. Finally catching hold of her aroma, he followed where it led at a smooth trot that made his empty stomach flop back and forth along with his stride. When he came upon the bloody footprints, he stopped to stare at them for a moment before continuing on. Not five minutes later, he found her up a tree. With the vampire's head still in his mouth by grasping of it's hair, he looked up at her with his amber cat's eyes then dropped his query and took a jogging jump at the tree. Sinking his claws into the bark, he relied on instinct to allow him to climb it, reaching the limb she was on and pushing her gently with his nose to give himself room to relax beside her. The beast's face was placed inches from her and muzzle twitched as he scented her, ears laying flat upon finding distress and fear. Suddenly the creature's spirit disappated and left the human to take over. Unable to control the lessening of power, the man was forced to change where he was in the awkward position sitting upon the branch. Fur left his skin and he sucked in a large breath of air into human lungs once the transformation had finished. Looking at her, he remembered that he was squishing her nearly off the branch and that he was completely naked up against her. Jerking his head around quickly, he jumped from where he sat and landed on the ground with a soft thud, bare feet firmly planted on the snow covered earth. Steam rolled off his body and he hardly noticed the cold, but he was strikingly aware of the maiden not far from him. Meeting her gaze again, he gestured slightly for her to come to the ground with him. When she did, he continued to say nothing, but instead picked up the vampire's head and began walking back along the route he had taken from the camp site to find her. Foremost on his mind was dressing as he did not like being exposed much even after all these years of having to be such whenever his other spirit decided to leave him to his own devices. They reached camp and he quickly found his pack. Pulling out clothes, he dressed quickly and pulled on his boots that were scattered close to the dying fire on their tent before turning to look back at her. What happened? He inquired, refraining from asking her if she was alright because it was obvious that physically, she was fine although mentally she may not be.Bending down, he got a spare shirt out of his bag and turned back to the head he had been carrying around and wrapped it inside the shirt. Just when he finished, he looked up at her from his crouched position and realized that he had been keeping a hold of this trophy without even wondering if it would bother her. Cringing mentally at his own stupidity, he continued to watch her to see if there was any revolted reaction to his presence now while at the same time waiting till she informed him of what had happened with her while he had been busy with his own vampire. He remembered also that her foot had been cut, the only cause of bloody footprints that he had seen. Standing and casting away pretenses about her finding him disgusting, he approached her and with a light touch on her arm, directed her to sit down on the bolder where he had prepared their dinner the night before so she could tell her story while he looked at the injury.

There was such a cocktail of emotions running through the girls body that she was completely immune to the cold and the wind that blew through the trees, even the small flakes that were starting to fall from the heavens and land lightly starting to cover her tracks. Worry for the man who had not been at the tent when the vampire had shown up what if there were others and he was overwhelmed, surely they could sense that she was a human and had left only one assuming that she would be an easy target. She debated many times getting down from the tree to go look for him but she had no idea what direction he would have gone in to the water, she assumed that it was not far but at the same time she knew that she would be a distraction and she did not want to get in a situation where the vampire was able to use her as bait so maybe being out and being uninvolved was the best, though she felt like she was sitting on pins and needles waiting for something to happen. There were a couple times when snow that had gathered on a large limb became too much and the branch gave way sending it tumbling to the ground where she jumped and nearly had to grasp the tree trunk to keep from falling to the snow ladden ground below. She was shaking now, but not because of the cold but simply the nerves and the adrenaline working its way out of her system. For what seemed like forever she sat there focusing on her breathing taking large inhales of the frigid air and expelling carbon into the atmosphere in the form of a mist, the only indication of truly how cold it was. She was lucky that she had slept in enough to keep her warm though since core temperature was rather manageable. Light footsteps were heard coming into the clearing in which her large tree stood though she did not tense completely right away since they were much lighter then a humans and the rythm was not the same. She instantly recognized the tawny beat that was striding into the area below her, carrying its prey within its mouth, this made her cringe a little though it was a good thing that the creature was taken care of. She was relieved when he dropped the head of the vampire into the snow, it looked like a scene from a horror movie though she was not going to get squeamish about it now not after all that had happened, after this he then took a couple steps back and ran at the tree easily getting to her level, she shifted far enough over that he would fit on the branch. Large face was pressed next to her and a small smile overtook lips hand was raised to run over the creatures head, never in her lifetime would she have imagined she would be sitting in a treetop with a large cougar petting it, when it really was her husband after having just slayed a vampire. Sometimes life seemed to work in unexpecting ways. Something seemed to change in him in an instant and he made the switch back to human, now sitting there beside her naked, the vulnerability seemed to be too much for him when he then jumped back to the ground. She did not jump down since she knew that would strain the cuts on the bottom of her foot and she would end up taking it a lot harder then the shifter, she dropped to where her hands hung on the branch making her feet a lot closer to the ground before then jumping the rest of the way and landing lightly on the snow below. Still he did not speak as he then picked up the vampires head and carried it with them leading the way back to the camp site. Dread settling in the pitt of her stomach wondering if he had already seen what had happened to the tent. She wondered what they were going to have do for the night since it was now snowing and they were out in the cold. Not allowing the wound on the bottom of her foot to bother her she walked without a limp though it was quite sore. It was not too far of a walk and soon they were back at the scene she had left, the tent lay mangled beyond being saved, but all their packs were luckily safe sitting on the bottom portion the remained nearly unharmed and still attached by the stakes. Eyes immediately found the pieces of tent and what remained of the body of the other vampire on the fire and locked on it, when he returned he as dressed and looking the same as he always had, she took a seat in front of the fire where it was still warm and ignored that it might smell like burning vampire before his voice brought her out of her trancelike state asking what had happened. She replayed the details in her mind while she stayed silent for a moment before turning back to him and bold words that sounded foreign to her were spoken. I killed her, the other vampire. Well not really intentionally though I am definately responsible for her death. She said finishing the last part a little quieter. Very hushed voices woke me up, but I did not have time to get out of the tent without being noticed and she approached the front of the tent, so the only thing I had to use for a weapon was one of the stakes holding the tent up, when she came in the tent collapsed but I managed to make a hole to not be trapped in the tent, so when she struggled to get out she wound up just getting more wrapped in it, when she managed to get to her feet still wrapped up in the tent I pushed her and she fell on the fire and was unable to get up and then I ran. I did not know whether I should come a find you or not because I did not want to be a distraction or be caught in the crossfire so I just found that tree and thats where I stayed. She leaned closer to the fire, rubbing hands together to create friction that would warm her a little more. As he directed her to the boulder she was sure with intentions of looking at her foot she then stood. One second. She returned to the area of their tent changing her shirt to a warmer thermal one and placing a sweatshirt over top she was well aware that she was changing in the open though that did not matter since there was no privacy of the tent anymore and she was not about to go wandering in the bush even though she now knew it was safe she was not going to take the chance and try to remain in his line of sight, she allowed her pants to remain though since they were warm enough before returning to the boulder. She did not find him disgusting, quite the opposite really, any woman would be attracted to a man that was able to protect them, this was all the entire incident was to her. The head that was kept well she did not know his intentions with it but it did not overly bother her, she hoped that it as just to show to the tribe as proof and would not be hanging in the living room like a trophy hunter hung his prey. Kat, stop looking at me like you expect me to be disgusted by you, when I told you I was fine with you having to kill these vampires before we left, I meant it. When he crouched in front of her to inspect her foot she moved closer hazel coloured optics searching to lock with darker hued pair. Bending at the waist she wrapped her arms around his neck in a bold and affectionate gesture. The close proximity with him making her heart pound lightly in her chest and the heat seemingly return to her body. I am glad you are safe. She whispered before being back to business and allowing her arms to drop as she bent at the waist to untie her boot, easing the laces looser so that her foot was able to be brought out without moving the strained areas. The sock she wore was blood soaked, the wound not too deep but already the surrounding area was turning black and blue from bruising and it was in a horrible spot considering where they were and how they had gotten here. She allowed him to do whatever he had planned she was not about to let a little injury like that hold her back though. She would not slow him down. I promise I won't slow you down, It's not a big deal, just a cut.

He listened to the story she told silently as he did everything and found a mixture of conflicting emotions welling up in regards to what had been said. The bloke was proud and amazed that the woman his parents had randomly chosen as his bride would be brave enough to take on a female vampire and be the victor out of the situation; however, he was also angry that she had stuck around long enough to push the Cold One into the fire. Letting his mind work through the emotions he was unused to handling, the male continued on quietly, urging her to sit on a bolder so he could take a look at her foot only to have her excuse herself from his touch. Frowning, he watched her, curious as to what she was doing, but when she took the clothes out of her pack and began to change, he directed his gaze away politely, allowing her at least some privacy that nature in all its glory could not give her. Patiently, he waited till she returned and sat upon the bolder before kneeling in front of her and moving to take off her boot. Lyrics spoken next stopped him in his tracks and gaze lifted from the foot to meet hazel pools that he now found so familiar. Facade was unreadable as he digested what she told him, disliking the relief that was instantly felt when she told him she was not disgusted by what he had done and that she had held true to her word even now when he carried the severed head of his opponent around as if it were nothing except another piece of luggage. Before the reaction could work its way through his mind completely, the damsel wrapped her arms around him, causing the man to step forward and be pulled into her embrace because he did not want her falling from her seat. Returning the gesture with arms that barely squeezed her; he heard what she whispered an instant before the cold space was between them again. Relaxing back onto his heels like before, the drake watched her as she loosened the ties on the boot and then willed himself into action by brushing her hands out of the way and slipping the boot off gently. The stench of rusty iron from her loss of blood was potent as he revealed her extremity and he knew without having to see it that her sock would be soaked in blood. Fingers hooked at the top of her sock and slowly worked it off her foot, trying his best not to harm her further by exposing the whole wound to a visual examination. The sock was placed on the toe of her boot and forgotten as he lifted her foot a little more to get a better view of what the sole looked like. Kat was busy examining it in his quiet way, moving his thumbs lightly over the surface of the skin to where the touch would not hurt, but to where he would still be able to get an idea of how deep the cut was and also so he could know any other damage that was done, when she uttered her confident promise about not slowing him down. Ignoring this and the irritation that rose slightly at her promise, he finished in no rush with a clinical mood then rose to get the first aid kit from his pack. Returning, he used some snow to try and clean the dried blood off of it as best as he could, jaws tightening with each try because he could feel her pain. When that was done, he used a shirt he had brought as well to dry her foot then applied some gaze and began to wrap it with medical wrap, making sure it was thin enough to where the limb would still be able to fit inside of her boot with a sock on her foot. You should not have stayed around long enough to push her into the fire. You should have run as far away as you could have and waited for me to find you as you did after the fact. I do not want you trying to take on an immortal ever again, do you understand me? Glancing up at her with hard coal depths, he finally let his displeasure be known. After meeting her eyes briefly, he returned his gaze to her foot and made sure to finish up his job before leaving once again to get another pair of socks out of her pack which she could change into and returning to slip them on her feet. Once he had finished and secured her boot back on her foot he stood and hesitated a little at her side. We will return at your pace. There is no need to rush to return to the village. Your foot will swell soon and you cannot walk an entire day on it like you have been. There are plenty of sites we can stay at between here and the truck and if it is necessary I can carry you to shelter. There is not supposed to be another winter storm for five more days. We have that long to reach a cabin at least. Moving off, he started around the campsite, gathering what was still salvageable and placing it nearest to where the lady sat. When he was finished, he cut down one of the pieces of meat and then taking a seat beside her, began to build another campfire with which he could cook the breakfast they had yet to eat then sliced up some of the meat, placing it on a broad stone in the center of the fire so it could cook. Realizing just as he finished that the pot had been left at the river, the bloke cursed his own forgetfulness and reluctantly extended his legs to once again stand. Knowing he would need to retrieve it and yet not quite feeling comfortable enough to leave his wife on her own yet, he debated what to do for a moment before coming to her side quickly and sweeping her up into his arms with one bracing beneath her legs and the other at her shoulder blades. I need to get the pot and although I think the pair was all that are here, I cannot leave you alone. Offering her an explanation, he walked on, not even pausing to deliver what had just been said. Stride was steady and smooth despite the terrain that he walked on. Once they reached the stream, he set her down on her own two feet then retrieved the utensil from where it sat braced up against a rock at the side of the water. Grateful that the body was hidden behind brush off to the left so she did not have to look at it, he dipped the pot into the running liquid then returned with it partly full to her and handed it over before gently picking her back up and starting for their camp again.

When she spoke about what had happened with the vampire she started to get a little emotional though she did a good job of not showing it. For a moment there seemed to be a flicker of pride that crossed the mans face and looked so out of place that she almost had not recognized it, was it possible that he was actually proud of what she had done? Though soon enough it was replaced with a sign of displeasure though what had prodded that she was not too sure, whether it was from her or from him she was not too sure though it did not remain recognizeable for long enough to be too concerned and she had getting changed on her mind as she then walked to where the tent had been to feel his eyes on her but he was too polite and turned away when she then started to change, when she had excused herself he looked as though he had been confused though he did not say anything. When she then returned he had been pulled into a hug that still seemed to shock him even though it had happened more then once since they had been together, this time though he leaned forward and did not remain quite as stiff as usual and placed hs arms around her in a gentle embrace. He then told her and gave her a speech that she should never have remained when the vampire was there and that she should have ran the moment that she had the chance and not stayed there to push the beast into the fire. She did not agree with that. And risk the possibilty that she would have come to join the other one and sneak up on you? No way I could not allow that to happen even if it meant that I took a small risk. When I married you Kat you became part of my family and I am loyal to my family. I could never promise you that it would never do it again either since I know that I would not stand back and watch as something put someone I cared for in danger. I will not make that promise to you. If something had happened to you because I allowed her to get away, well even just thinking about it makes me feel sick. She uttered defiantly, sticking up for her family and friends was something that she would not budge on. She would not allow one to get hurt when there was something that she would be able to do to prevent it. After all what if the female had gone and killed him. He was so gentle when he touched her injured foot he eased the boot off it without allowing her to help get the footwear off and gently peeled the sock back which nearly made her wince though she did not show it and remained completely still as he then cleaned it and she gritted her teeth together silently sitting there, he then placed the gauze on and bandaged it before then replacing a new sock over her foot and launching into a speech about them not having to be back for awhile since they were not on a time limit. It really is not that bad Kat. It will recover when we get back I think it would be best that we leave tomorrow for sure and I will make you a promise to tell you if it start to get too bad. Weather can change very quickly I don't want to take a chance. She knew that this would be something that would appeal to him since he knew that he could not predict the weather and she was sick of being cold and wanted nothing more then a hot shower. They were done when he had been sent out to do and now it was time for them to get back, she did not want to wake up to find that they had been wrong and that a blizzard that could potentially trap them had rolled in over night. As usual he was all business as he walked around the campsite to try to salvage the most of what had been wrecked before then announcing that he was going to need to go back to the site where he had been when the vampire had been there and she nodded and then he told her that he did not want to leave her here even though he knew that the vampires were gone, she nodded and started to get to her feet but not before he managed to pick her up in his arms and carry her. She was overwhelmingly comfortable in his grips as she allowed herself to relax and head was rested on his chest with a deep sigh. The small snowflakes fell on her forehead as they fell lightly from the sky. With a cheeky glint within hazel optics she reached up slightly in the mans arms before then kissing his neck, nose which she knew was cold was run across his jawline. A big attempt to distract him with a stunning grin that crossed her lips. He bent down when they reached where the pan had been left and he gathered it and filled it with water that she held in her hands as they walked back towards the camp site. He seemed content to pack up the rest of the bags and she stood so that she would be able to help and placed hers on her back since they would surely not be able to sleep exposed as it was snowing in the night and set off to find a cave or some sort of shelter. The place that they found had a stunning view as they were suspended on a rock face over a large cliff that lead in the direction in which they had hiked when they had come here. As he started to make dinner she moved to the cave and started to take the sleeping bags out laying them how they had slept the night before. She was terribly hungry after all that had gone on so she then returned to where the food was being cooked. She had brought the plates with her and was becoming very used to where things were being stored in the packs. As soon as they were dished up with the food she dug in and savoured the meat as it had been cooked. The dirty dishes were placed at the edge of the cave so that they could be addressed in the morning before moving to him. Reaching out for his hand. Come to bed. She uttered gently before dropping his hand and moving to the sleeping bags, making sure to remain right in his line of vision as she reached her arms over her head and pulled the shirt from slender physique, to replace it with a long white thermal shirt, the pants were a thermal pair as well but in the yoga pants variety which showed off the girls curves. When he joined her and finished whatever he was doing before laying down a devious glance was shot his direction before she shifted over to lay on top of him, kisses were placed along the mans jawline and his cheek before then finally migrating to her lips. She then ran hands along his waistline and up the front of his shirt before acting as if nothing had happened and rolling over to lay beside him like she would have before. It was out of her character though she was interested to see how he would respond. She was still not too sure how he would take it since they had not been together too long and she was not too sure if he would get too caught up with the urges or reject her like he had the first night of their marriage. Sometimes she wished that he would talk more and tell her what was going through his mind though that was not the way he was and she was starting to really appreciate the lack of words that passed between them yet the understanding they seemed to have.
