The way this night had turned out was not at all like what the male had been expecting when he had walked out of the bathroom to get dressed for dinner. He thought it would be like every other night with her reading a book and him looking over maps or plans that were relevant to the job. Instead, they were facing each other, with his eyes boring into the lass and his touch light upon her wrist. Surprisingly, none of this seemed to phase her one bit which was strange. Most people would become unnerved by his hard, black stare or would shrink away from him because of his sheer size and confident, almost cocky air, but not this little woman who was bolding facing off with him. He was not much shocked with what came next when she leaned in to press her lips to his. The tension in the atmosphere had been thick since she had bumped into him. It was only a matter of time before this sort of thing progressed and yet, the touch of her lips upon his was light, almost nonexistent. Thumb stilled upon her wrist and a deep growl gathered in the pit of his stomach at the teasing manner in which she had kissed him, but the sound of never released. With his lids still closed over depths, he would see the next sequence of events play out: him reaching for her neck to pull her lips roughly back against his as she started to pull away; taking from her what she denied from him, but this was only a fleeting vision and quickly disappeared along with her lips on his mouth, leaving the bloke to open his depths to see her facade. Gaze followed her hand for a moment as her arm extended and placed it on his chest just above his shirt on one of his pectorals. His skin quivered like the hide of a horse when a fly lands upon it in reaction to the touch until it grew accustomed to it. Liquids lifted to again look into her pools, his hand having fallen from her wrist to rest at his side. Slowly but deliberately, the vixen moved from where she was sitting, taking with her the hand on his chest, only to reposition herself more directly in front of him. In a bolder act that he was growing quite fond of her making, she scooted closer and wrapped her arm around his neck, but stopped short of kissing him again as if content to only tempt him by lightly brushing fingertips along his skin at the edge of the shirt. A sensation unknown to him started in the center of his abdomen and slowly began to spread throughout his body by way of his veins, pumping the adrenaline faster so respiration rate would accelerate. For a while, Kat remained indecisive as to where to take it from here, but the longer he sat there with her breath on his face the harder it was to simply let her take it where she wanted it to go. Shades fluttered over surfaces and he leaned into her hand while at the same time letting his palms move down her thighs till they rested at her hips. Then, lifting her slightly, the man maneuvered her till she was tightly against him, sitting on his lap with one leg bent on either side of his waist. Pair flashed open to find the femine mask now only inches from his and with one arm wrapping around her waist, the other lifted till hand was able to capture her neck and pull her lips down onto his. Wasting no further time, he unleashed a passionate kiss; grazing her pink tissues with his teeth every once in a while and letting his tongue free rein. After breaking off from this endearment, the lord suddenly moved her from his lap and rose to a stand, holding out his hand in offering to her so she would take it. When she did, he turned and led her to the bedroom without hesitation, shutting the door behind them till they were nearly immersed in darkness, with only the light of the moon shining through the window curtains. Undress. To like you were on our wedding night. His deep voice commanded, hand leaving hers once she stepped into the moon's rays while he clung a little longer to the shadows, watching her with interest to see if she would do what he wanted.

She could not believe the way that the night was starting to turn out, she had thought it would just have been a repeat of their wedding night when she had judged him slightly wrong and assumed that he would take advantage of her attempt to seduce him. This time though the tension was much too heightened ever since she had bumped into him in the kitchen her mind had been on it, even as she had been giving him a massage that had been intending on relaxing him she had been able to feel the tension radiating off him. After all he was a man, what did she think his reaction would be when she had sat herself down behind him with little or no warning, them going from no physical contact between eachother to something that could be considered a little scandulous. She had prepared herself for this so therefore her gaze was not even wavered when it met his dark calculating stare, though she did hate that she would not be able to tell what was going through his mind. She knew that it would do her no good being afraid of him since he was her husband and she was expected to live with him so therefore she would not live in fear or give him the satisfaction of that. When her lips met his lightly she was able to feel him tense beneath her touch, a small smirk falling on kissers as she knew that it was driving him closer to a breaking point, the normally calm and svelte shifter was turning a little flustered. She debated closing the distance and launching into a more passionate display of affection though she was not too sure how this was even going to work out and she did not want to be denied once again. Eyes bore into her arm as she reached out to place light touch on his chest, she was even able to see skin flinch beneath her touch. It did only take a couple of moments for him to still himself. He was no longer touching her wrist which worried her a little as he then looked back up to meet her gaze, a small look of confusion crossed her face. The distance between the two of them seemed as if it was as vast as the ocean seemed when you looked out over it. Though she was not going to settle for that and she decided that she was going to make one more move to try to gauge the way that he was going to respond. When she moved so close to him that she was able to feel his breath on her neck it sent goose bumps along her arms. He seemed as though he was fighting an internal war as he was sitting there yet he did not move just still with breathing slightly heightened to the point where she could just faintly hear it. His hands then moved from where they had been at his side to run along her thighs to her hips, she was then moved so that she was sitting in his lap, long legs stretching out on either side of him. One arm secured her against him by wrapping around her waist and the warmth of his body was nearly unbearable as stomach seemed to be tied in knots of nerves and anticipation. It caught her off gaurd when lips crashed onto her own and breath caught in the back of her throat as teeth grazes sensitive tissues. By the time they broke apart every sense was heightened and body tingled beneath his touch. He moved her so that he was able to stand up. Hand was offered back to her as she rose from the couch steps were hesitant and slow to the bedroom knowing that it would just add to the tension between the two of them. They stepped into a room that did not have lights on though her eyes adjusted to use the limited bit provided by the moon to be able to see him quite clearly as door was shut behind them. He lingered within the darkest part of the room while she was near the door, she yearned for the closeness that they had just had. He commanded her to undress to how she had been the night of their wedding. Brow raised slightly at the deep utterance though she knew she would comply since it would show her confidence in herself. Remaining in a clear line where the moonlight danced off tanned complexion a small smile fell on stunning features before hand slowly and deliberately moved to the edge of her shirt pulling the thin fabric over her head a lacy deep red bra stood in the spot of where the black one had that night. The top buttons of her jeans were undone to a point that showed the slender curve of her hips before the rest of the fabric was shed to show the matching pair of underwear to the lacy red bra. She waited to see what response she would get from him staying rooted to the spot for now.

Hooded depths that could barely be seen by the human girl from where the male stood in the shadows watched every move she made; following her hands as they dutifully fulfilled the command that he had issued to her. Perhaps any other man would have chosen to be more subtle with his wife, but that was not Kat's style. He liked to be direct; eliminating the need for nonsense that most others indulged in. Once again, Feylnx surprised him with the way she adjusted to him as if it were nothing, merely hesitating for a second before following through with the plan he had set in his mind. Other women would have balked at him treating them in such a way and probably would have left him smoldering in his hunger to deal with the frustration on his own, but not this shockingly confident lass who at first seemed to be the quiet, reserved type. What sort of deal had he gotten when taking this damsel for his wife? The answer to that question was slowly being revealed to him with each passing day. Moonlight glancing off her skin made it seem smooth like cream and white like a pearl; making him want to touch it once again so he could memorize the texture and not have to wonder any longer. Breathing remained regular as she stripped even though orbs darkened and his body tightened in a physical yearning that he did understand. Only once her jeans were dropped from her legs and she had stepped out of them to stand there and wait on his move, did the man advance from the darkness. His own hands grabbed the tail of his shirt and pulled it over his head; dropping the fabric where her clothing lay on the floor without his gaze ever shifting away from the lady for even a moment. Each step taken was precise, almost like it was calculated, but it looked effortless as he approached her rapidly and smoothed his hands over her hips, drawing her towards him to close the distance between their warm bodies. A low, satisfied rumble sounded in his chest once their skins brushed, making him forget about the coldness in the air. In no rush, he slowly let his palms run over her figure, appreciating each curve with both his hands and his eyes. Suddenly, he took a grip upon her sides and spun her around until she faced the window; the light coming in to hit her face and breast instead of her back and shoulders. One palm rested upon her shoulder lightly while the other hand cupped her hair gently and pushed it from her back to sweep over the opposite shoulder; exposing the sweet curve of her neck. Stepping closer till hot breath came down onto her cheek and neck without their frames touching, he let his hands slide down her back and side, taking in the sight of her lighter hued skin and the way her hair shined like a raven's feathers in the sunlight. Bending, his lips press first to her shoulder where the collarbone levels out then moved up along the long line of her neck to the swell of her jaw where he stopped, pausing with his cheek pressed against her head. Arms directed her to lean back against him and his kisses trailed back down to her shoulder; fingers slipping back up her arm to her bra strap, tugging it off the slope of her shoulder slowly to leave lips a clear path. With that done, he reached around with the same extremity and locked her against him at the waist as the whole length spanned across her abdomen to latch lightly upon her right side. Without giving her time for further games, Kat lifted his head and shifted around till his unoccupied right hand could move to the clasp at the center of her back and unclip it so the covering of red lace would fall from her body. Rushing now a little to keep her from feeling uncomfortable underneath his unaccustomed stare, he moved them to the comfortable bed in the middle of the room with a touch that was unusually light for a man with a reputation of being rough in every aspect of his life. As a slow, attentive lover, the shifter took as much time with his bride that he thought she deserved even after all their clothes were gone. Each action was controlled as their night progressed to the point where the vixen might think him indifferent, but the unevenness of his breath and the occasional moments of inactiveness used to compose himself could not lie; nor could his body. There should be no argument of whether he wanted her or not; that answer could plainly be seen, but he treated sex with her like he did every other thing in his life: with controlled emotions and quick, deliberate decisions. After he finished and her the same, the Chosen pulled the sheets up to her shoulders to be sure the cool would not reach her warm body while at the same time tucking her up against his chest and stretching out on the large bed like a very lazy cat; eyes closing in a soft sigh like the night's activities had worn him out.

His eyes were on her body the entire time that she shed the clothes and it was a nice feeling that she was starting to get used to. Sure she was a little uneasy to begin with though she kept reminding herself that if he had not wanted to conduct these sorts of activities he would have turned her down, she did not need words to tell her what he thought of her like some women and she understood that he was not the type to compliment her. His type of compliments were the way he was looking at her right now making her feel as though she was special, it also looked as though he had a hint of suprise as to how easily she shifted into this confident young woman and how hard she tried her best to please him. She understood that his gruff words were not meant to be that way he was simply quite to the point when and if he talked, the fact that he had even graced her with words was strange. As he moved in her direction he ridded his shirt as he walked still beneath the scrutinizing gaze though now her own eyes were allowed to roam the firm body of the man and she found that she was glad that she had been chosen to marry someone as good looking as he was. As much as she was sure that she could love someone that was not quite as handsome she knew that this was a factor that helped his company be a little more than ideal. The strong lines were rigid as the moonlight danced across muscles. They were close now and the warmth radiating off their bodies mingled, causing a low rumble to sound in his chest and she could not help but smile at the sound. Hands explored her body and she allowed him to become accustomed to the hide that was no usually seen by the remainder of the people of where they lived. These sections of her were reserved for this mans eyes only. He suprised her though since he had seemed to be so rushed when they had entered earlier and he had asked her to undress. He was patient with the girl although sometimes she wished that he would not be. She tensed at the sudden grip on her sides though trust in him allowed her to easily move to where he had placed her as her back was to him and she was able to feel the heat off him still though they were not quite touching. She quivered at the touches placed along her body. Hair was moved from her back to rest over the shoulder that he was grasping. Shivers ran along her spine ivories clamping her bottom lip. Gentle kisses were placed along her collar bone, shoulder and neck breathing was now heightened and the anticipation of what was happening was starting to overwhelm her. Breath was against her cheek though they were not touching and it was all she could do not to lean back into his muscled abdomen just craving physical contact. Cheek was against her and he then was guided to lean back against him able to feel the firm structure of his muscled body behind her. Arms then were locked around her and she did not protest. She then felt his hand move to her spine where the clasp was placed and the silky fabric fell from her to the ground with the rest of the clothes. She did not feel uncomfortable as she had gotten that all out of the way to know what was normal from the man and she was relaxed as she was placed back on the bed. A smile that reassured him that she was fine with everything was uttered along features. He was so controlled and attentive that confidence rose to a point where she knew that she would never forget this night. A warm feeling spreading through her entire body when she came to realize just how considerate it was. At the same time she never questioned whether or not he wanted this just as much as she did. When it was all over the covers were pulled over her shoulders by him making sure that the heat that just just been radiating off the both of them did not leave her to get a chill. Tonight they did not sleep at opposite ends of the bed facing away from one another though as he brought her close to his chest. Glancing up at him she tried to decipher the look on his face before a bold mood brought her to his level to place a gentle kiss on his lips. Good night, Kat. She uttered softly before curling up against his chest and resting her head on his collar bone. Within moments she was asleep and resting peacefully. She awoke before sunrise and unwrapped herself from the sheets and the man before feet touched the ground, she sifted through some clothes before choosing some and placing them on before the walk to the bathroom not wanting to chance it that someone would see her run to the bathroom. She had a quick shower before dressing and stepping out with her hair damp it would only take a little while to dry and she knew it would by dry by the time she finished with breakfast. Eggs were made and bacon along with hashbrowns. She poured them both orange juice and waited for the rest to be finished.

As he lay in his bed after bedding the woman whom he had married, the male knew he should be feeling a comfortable peace wash over him, but instead he felt nothing but confusion. He felt utterly perplexed by the feelings running though his brain right then. Yes, he had expected to feel satisfaction once their deed had been finally accomplished, but somehow this was not exactly how the emotions were playing out. Sure, he had been with other women before and felt the sense of male pride that every man would feel after sex, but usually he just left afterward. Instead, he was drawing the lass closer to him; engulfing her in his arms like he had never done. At least, not while conscious. In his mind he defended himself, knowing he had every right to hold the warm body against his own. She was his wife after all and if he was not going to share his bed with her who would he then? Drawing him from his thoughts, the fea shifted against him, cuddling closer till her skin brushed against his once again. Jaw line tightened and he fought the urge to flip her onto her back and take her again, but there was no need to overwhelm her with his desire especially because this was the first time she had ever been with a man. The realization hit him like a punch in the gut, knocking the breath out of him briefly just as his companion in the bed moved again and her lips pressed to his lightly. The words that came out of her mouth afterwards in the form of good night sounded close to adoring and it caused him to stiffen a little bit although a second later the way she curled up against him instantly produced the opposite effect. Muscles relaxed and he moved his hand to smooth her hair back; allowing his fingers to get lost in the ebony waves as they cascaded over her shoulder and down her back. Lips remained pressed together, holding in any reply if he had ever thought to formulate one. For a while longer, he continued to stroke her hair till the sound and feel of her steady breathing told him she was asleep. Slowly, the shifter got out of the bed, taking care not to wake her as he moved to the bathroom still stark naked then got a wash cloth wet with warm water before crossing back into the bedroom. Still trying to be quiet and move without disturbing her, he climbed back into the bed, moving the covers so they would once again around her shoulders, keeping her as warm as possible. Wrapping his arm around her waist, he gently rolled her onto her back while looming over her while still on his side and calmly parted her legs before using the washcloth in his hand to clean off whatever blood was on her body. Once finished, the lord pushed her thighs back together and urged her to shift back onto her side; tossing the washcloth to the floor by their dirty clothes just as arms wrapped around her and drew him to her again. The sheets could be changed the next day, but it really did not matter. They would only be staying till the day after tomorrow once the storm in the mountains had settled and then the real job would begin. Kat wished like hell he could keep her here, out of harm’s way and out of his constant thoughts, but he knew that she would want to come and in her quiet way would make him feel terrible if he told her to stay here. Besides, he was not quite ready to leave his wife in a town full of strange men whose character he could not be completely sure of. The possessiveness he had felt when they had first gotten off the plane and she was talking with the ambassador flared up again and he pulled her even closer, growling at the thought of someone else looking at her let alone being alone with her while he was not around to make it very clear that she would belong to no one but him. Startled by his own thoughts, he nearly pushed himself out of the bed, knowing that space from her would help to clear his mind, but the mattress was too comfortable and leaving her warmth was far from tempting so he stayed where he was, eventually allowing eyes to close as he fell asleep. When he woke up, he was surprised to find that the damsel had left his grip without waking him which meant that he must have been very tired. Sitting up, he rubbed his forehead and felt more alert than he had in many years. It had been so long since he had slept so deep and he knew he had no one to thank but the lady. Breathing in, he caught the scent of breakfast being cooked and threw the sheets off of his body so he could rise from the bed and dress in his boxers and a pair of sweat pants and a grey short sleeve t-shirt, the hunger gnawing at his stomach far too demanding for him to take the time to dress properly for what he planned for the day. Stepping out from the bedroom quietly, the first thing he saw was her back facing towards him, long hair falling down past her shoulder blades and he had a flash back from the night before when he had stepped up to her back and bent to kiss the flesh at her neck. The desire began to throb within him and he nearly groaned, wishing now that he had been able to keep from bedding her just so he could be free of this need to have her again that seemed to have sprung up over night. Trying to ignore his yearning, he moved into the kitchen and took the glass of orange juice from the table that he supposed was his to take a long drink from it only to set it back down on the table. Good morning. Deep vocals uttered, briefly greeting her as he had never done in order to satisfy the need for speech he was suddenly feeling. The food was prepared in no time and he sat down beside her at the tiny table, eating hungrily although not abandoning his manners while doing so. Once they were both finished, he stood and helped her to clean the dishes, banishing the thoughts of last night by focusing on what they were going to do to pass the time today doing even if it was far from what he would like to be doing. Have you ever been hiking before? He asked her once they finished with the dishes, his hip resting upon the counter while weight shifted to one foot. It would be smoother if she had at least some experience in the matter, but then again, hiking for simply the pleasure of it was nothing like hiking with him while he was hunting and she was human: unfortunately more likely to tire far before the man did which he knew would slow his pace. After she answered, he nodded and then lifted his hand with his finger curled to make a gesture that told her to follow him as he moved to the bedroom. Not pausing as he entered, he went straight to the dresser and after opening a few drawers, got out the warm thermal wear they had bought then handed it over to her. There is a blizzard lingering in the mountains right now so we cannot leave off as soon as I had hoped. I'm going to take you through the forest instead as a test run to see what I need to adjust and how quickly you lose your strength. He stepped back to the dresser and got out his own clothes, moving towards the bed so he could toss the clothes onto the mattress and give her some room to change before stripping down to his underclothes and dressing himself properly.

She was able to tell that there was a lot on the mans mind by the look on his face and she wondered what was going through his head. She had been prepared for he deed even though she did not have a mother to give her the talks that a lot of the girls were given when they turned about fifteen. Her father knew that he would not know enough about the subject so when she had turned 13 to save her from the humility that came with being the last to know she was sent to one of the woman of the tribes house where it was all explained to her. So in turn she had been one of the first in her class to know how everything worked. With Kat and the tentative manner in which he had made sure that she would be alright it had been a better experience than she had thought where she had stayed comfortable during nearly the entire time. Plus she knew that her threshold for pain was a lot higher than many others so therefore it seemed as if nothing more then a step in her life and she did not feel any different than before it had happened. He engulfed her in his arms which seemed so out of character for him, though she was not about to comment on it in case it made him retract his arm, she did not want him to push her away. She was relaxed and breathing was calm and steady as she uttered good night with a small kiss pressed to his lips before then allowing eyelids to fall over optics. She was deep in sleep covered with his warmth and content. She did not even have enough time to reflect too much on what had just happened which was probably a good thing since she knew that she would overanalyze it. Internal alarm clock worked in the morning when she was up before him and before the sun rose knowing that since she was the first one up that would mean that she should make breakfast. She was going to pull the sheet off the bed but knew that would wake him up as she prepared the clothes that she intended to wear for the day and wore temporary ones on the way to the shower. She did not want to risk that there would be someone wanting to meet Kat before they took off on their trek and did not think that the male would take too nicely to them seeing his wife naked. That scene was reserved for his eyes only. The shower did not take long before she was ready to make breakfast and feeling refreshed. She was able to hear his footsteps from the bedroom long before she was able to see him. She did not turn though since she was busy taking hot things off the stove and did not want to end up looking like a fool and burning herself. He uttered good morning to her and a small smile graced features as she turned with the plate prepared with the food to meet his gaze for a moment. It had been the first time he had uttered a good morning to her and she felt as though something nearly had shifted between the two of them. This was turning a little more complicated than just an agreement that was made between their parents. She piled enough food to satisfy her on her plate before then picking up her fork and eating it. She was finished after him though since he seemed to wolf the meal down. She stood after finishing her glass of orange juice to carry the plates to the sink where he helped her take them and wash them. She could not help but fidget being so close to him. He turned to her when they were finished to ask if she had ever been hiking before. She was not too sure what he would consider hiking. She did not have many friends in school since they all judged her for what had happened between her mother and father so therefore she had to have someway to spend her afternoons and that was usually wandering through the forest by her father house. A little but not much. She told him just to be safe though she knew that she would be alright. He stated that there was a storm and they would not be leaving until the next day but they would be hiking today and she nodded. She followed him into the bedroom when he indicated and took the clothes that were tossed to her before moving in the direction of the bathroom and getting changed in here, putting her hair in a pony tail so that it would be free from her face and returning to the room when he was finished getting changed and grabbing the sheet off the bed and walking to the washing machine and putting it on a cold cycle before walking to the door. She grabbed a water bottle on her way out as well before putting her shoes on and lacing them tight so that they would not rub even when they had been walking for quite awhile knowing that she would not tire as easily as he thought. She was tougher than that and would not want to admit that she was tired. She set out matching the pace behind him when he started to walk. When they were about half an hour in she then spoke. I understand that there is no way that I can be as quick as you, not with me being a human. That is not an asset to you. I have no problem if you want me to stay behind. I am sure I can find something to bide the time. At least think about it. She showed no sign of slowing down or tiring though as steps were light and graceful along where they were walking.

Eyes lifted from the floor where he was busy pulling on a pair of black thermal Underarmor pants to follow the lass as she walked out of the bedroom with the things he had handed her. Confused, he stood frozen to the spot, listening carefully to her footsteps as she walked across the house and then he heard a door close and knew that she had retreated to the bathroom to change. Ironic really that she chose to hide her body from him now when the night before he had looked his fill, but he would not be one to push the subject with her. If she still felt uncomfortable undressing around him, it would not bother him if she moved off to another room to dress nor did it offend him. Focusing on getting dressed once again, he finished with his bottom half then pulled on the turtleneck and another thick shirt before picking up his boots from the corner of the room and walking out into the living room where he set the shoes down upon the floor beside the door, staring momentarily at the bathroom just as the lass opened the door and walked out. Her hair was pulled back into a pony tail and for a moment he thought about the loss. The long, raven locks were beautiful to him: something he loved to look at and touch. With her hair pulled up and out of her face, he felt the need to undo the tie so they could fall back onto her shoulders, but knew that doing so would probably confuse her and distract him from what he had planned. Upon seeing that she did not alter her strides to move towards him but instead kept on to the bedroom, he relaxed his stance, patiently waiting for her to be ready as he stood by the door. When she walked out of the bedroom with the sheets in her arms, his pools darkened and he found himself smirking, slightly amused that somewhere in all the busyness of the morning he had forgotten that the sheets needed to be cleaned and here the woman was, once again taking care of him like he never thought any female could. He heard water start to fall as the washer was started then a moment later she appeared carrying her boots towards the door where he waited. Together they bent to lace up their boots then he handed her the pink florescent jacket he had bought her before leaving with her mittens stuffed in the pockets before picking up his own jacket and shrugging it onto his shoulders once arms were in the holes. He did up the zipper then made sure the Velcro was well in place before opening the door and stepping out into the cold air, squinting against the brilliance of the white snow that littered the ground in a fresh fall from the night before as the sun reflected its rays off the surfaces. Turning away, he looked back at her in the doorway, standing aside so she could step in front of him and he shut the door behind her. Digging into his pockets, he pulled out his gloves and put them on before producing a thick looking black beanie that fit along with the rest of his attire. The hiking bags had been left in the bedroom because although this was a trial hike, he did not want to carry the extra weight today especially since the added pounds would tire the female out more than necessary. Nodding to her, he led the way from the cabin and went around to its backside where it was flanked by trees much like the house they shared back in their own reservation. Seeing fresh deer tracks in the snow leading into the woods, the male picked his way along the path and began to follow it, keeping his pace steady and slightly slower than usual so she would not feel too strained keeping up. A few times, he glanced behind him to find with pleasant surprise that she had remained on his heels. Apparently she was tougher than he gave her credit for and even half an hour into the hike she was still going strong which was a good sign since he liked to go for hours without stopping. Her words however did bring him to pause, stopping just beside a large oak as he twisted his torso and stepped back to brace one foot behind him so he could look at her more easily. Slowly, eyes roamed up and down her body in a clinical manner as if he was trying to figure her out. One moment she was quietly requesting to go with him and the next she was giving him her total permission to leave without her. Was he ever going to get a clear read from her? Sighing quietly so she could not hear the sound leave his mouth, he easily met her eyes while speaking. It is up to you if you come with me or not. Even being a human you will not slow me down much. I anticipate the Cold Ones coming to me rather quickly as I will be using myself as bait. To act human I will need to slow the pace anyway. Having you there will be like a check for me, but I shall do my job without you. Waiting a moment longer so she could absorb what he had told her before taking off, the man stubbornly avoided the subject that really burned in the back of his mind. The real reason he had trouble with her going was his concern for her safety. There was no guarantee he could keep her safe and out of the vampire's grasps even though he knew he would do his damnest to keep that from happening and of course there was always the question of how he would go about killing them in front of her. Their deaths would not bother him, but would they bother her? Would she be unnerved or afraid of her husband if she saw him slaughter the immortals of their enemy race? If she decided she wanted to come along, they could address that problem as it came about. Until then, he busyed his thoughts with the hiking trip. They continued on till two hours time had passed and then he glanced back to find that she had begun to drop behind his pace finally. Deciding then was the prime time, he stopped by a bolder and waited for her to catch up, holding out a piece of beef jerky to her that he produced from the inside of his jacket before directing her towards the rock. Sit. We can break then head back.

While they were walking she allowed her mind to wander. She wondered what her dad was doing on a day like this and what the weather was like back at the tribe. She also allowed herself dangerous thoughts like, what would it be like to be free of the constraints that the tribe placed on her? What if she would be allowed to travel to places like this on her own free will, this taste of freedom had gotten her thinking of all the rich culture they were missing because they were so tied to one place. Though she had to admit there was nothing wrong with the tribe, they had always treated her perfectly, the group taking her in to play mother figure when they knew that she did not have one anymore. It was nice to have an extended family like that. Which made her guilty for even wondering what it would be like to desert them. Her boots we warm and she was glad they had bought them if she had worn any other shoes they would be soaked leading to her getting cold. She was warm with the clothes that they had bought in preparation for the trip. Hands were placed in the pockets of the jacket as she allowed him to lead her in the direction in which they were going. Even with some of the fallen branches and her thoughts wandering she was graceful and navigated the trail well, keeping up the pace well into the trek. After she had asked him whether or not he wanted to leave her behind she got a little insight into what he wanted. Of course he did not hive her a full out answer since he would not tell her what she was to do. He then gave her a couple reasons that built on her deciding that she would come. He told her that she was not slow him down too much and that he had been planning on pretending as though he was a human. Alright. She nodded with agreement deciding that she would indeed come with him since they were already prepared for the trip and everything. Plus she did not like the idea of being in a town that she did not know without knowing anyone and sitting there and waiting for him. She would worry about him so she would rather know what was going on right from the source. She did not care that it involved killing vampires, they were a menace to the circle of life that she believed in. They were monsters, and if there was more and more of them it was just bound to bring the world into a chaos since it was nearly impossible for them to die and they ended up living such long lives. She knew that he was being sent here as an exterminator so therefore she knew what his job was going to be when he got there. She had already prepared herself for it and knew that it would be gorey. That did not mean for a second that she would think anything less of him, he was sent here to do that and in fact it made her think more of him because he was relieving a town of their menace that was preying on innocent people. She thought that she should tell him this. She could tell what he was thinking by the looks that had flashed over his face a couple times. I know you have to kill them Kat and I want you to know that that does not mean that I will think any less of you, in fact quite the opposite. I know its your job and all but for you to come out here and volunteer to rid this tribe of their monsters, well its really brave. And I also want you to know that I will have no problem seeing that. I have prepared myself and don't worry about me, just focus on what you need to do. She hoped this would give him a little peace of mind knowing that she would not think he was a monster when he was doing his job and disposing off these monsters, he knew that even if he had a choice to bring them in and put them in a form of jail that they would not come willingly, they would be on the alert and she knew that if given the chance they would do the same and kill him. At the two hour mark she started to slow a bit, her feet turning a little sore and muscles starting to fatigue working against her. While she knew that she would be able to keep going she had to account that they were going to have to hike back over all this distance. He was sitting on a boulder as she neared and steps slowed slightly, he held a piece of beef jerky out to her which she took with a small smile. Thanks. She uttered gently. She took a seat were he gestured for her to sit, the sounds of nature being taken in around them. It had been a long time since she had just taken a hike to listen to the small sounds that most people just took forgranted. She could not imagine if one day they would all disappear, half of the allure of the forest would be gone and instead of being warm and inviting it would be just eerie and empty. The last couple times she had passed through the forest though she had either been on a jog or her thoughts had taken up all her attention, now was the first time she felt as though she could relax a little and know that her life was falling back into place. Being married to Kat was not the worst thing that had happened to her and she knew that it was a lot better then being married to a lot of the people that she knew of were suitors in the area. Her and Kat seemed to have a quiet understanding. He had been more then polite since the ceremony that had dubbed them man and wife. Never did he push her to do something that she was uncomfortable with. Even allowing her to sleep in his bed for a couple nights without him in order to try to get used to being in a foreign house, not pressing her for the one deed that was done in order to 'consumate' the marriage even though it had been offered to him on the night. Taking her with him even against his own beliefs to this tribe, giving her to chance to prove to him what she could really be for him. While a week ago she had been nothing more then a shy and independant girl she had changed into someone that was proud, dependable and easily adaptable. She felt as though anything could be tossed her way and she would take it on bravely. Little did Kat know just how much he had changed her. When she had told him last night that he was a great guy she had meant it with the uttermost certainty. His devotion to his line or work and to the tribe and now to her was unparalleled. While he was not the traditional 'loving and sensitive' husband that was present in most girls dreams, he fit into her dreams well. She knew that when it came down to it that she would always be provided for and protected. He had proved that when he had taken her to the clothing store to prepare for this trip. Instead of just assuming that she had enough clothes and assuming that she would be fine he had it set out in his mind to ensure that she was protected. She remembered back to the first time they had met, mere days before the wedding. He had spoken to her stating the exact words. I realize this is not, perhaps, the most desirable situation for yourself. I do not particularly favor our parents agreement either, but I will honor it. While it still might not be the most desirable for him she could not help but wonder if this had changed at all, did he enjoy her company like she did his. While at first it looked to be a nightmare she had changed her tune and come to realize that the man and his solid sturdy and quiet presence was a huge part of her life now. That night had been the first time that he had shown his protective instinct in keeping her safe when he found her out walking when she had not been able to sleep and followed her back to her house. All those memories were held dear to her and she was reminded of them on a constant basis by the small thoughtful things that he was not forced to do but he did anyways. She knew that her life had changed so much lately but she could not help but miss the horse that had been a large part of her life for the last six years. The animal could be counted on to cheer her up no matter what kind of a day she was having so it had been hard for her to adjust to a life where she did not get to be around the horse. But even that brought a memory of Kat reminding her of the words that had been spoken in a promise before they had left, promising her that he would build a place for the animal once they got back home and that brought a small smile to her face remembering that had been also the day that she had been so overwhelmed by him telling her that that she had thrown her arms around him in a hug. He had not rejected her, although it had been awkward for him and she knew that he had returned the gesture. While she was sure that he thought that when they got married that she would want nothing short of a fairytale, sometimes all reality needed was a little time to be just as appealing. She only took a few moments of a break before jumping back to her feet as though she had been able to regain all of her previous energy. Ready? She asked him before long strides were even and fast paced along the trail. It always seemed that the walk home took longer then the walk out there and it was probably true because even though she would have liked to she was not able to maintain the same pace as when she had been fresh this morning. She was by no means lagging behind though. Soon enough the house that they were inhabiting came into view and she stepped up the steps behind him while the door was unlocked for the two of them to step through. It was always seen as strange that their tribe was preserved so far by not welcoming the outside world in and not allowing the people of the tribe out and yet they still embraced some of the technology. Most of the people she knew had cell phones, herself included. It was in case of an emergency since she was known to wander, with or without her horse. There were not too many number programmed into it and most of the older members of the tribe refused to change their ways. She had left the phone on the dresser this morning when she had gone to grab the sheets and she noticed that it was blinking a red colour signalling that it meant that she had a message. She was sure that it was just going to be from her dad when she opened it and noticed that it was from a number that she did not recognize. You have no clue how long it took me to find your number Feylnx. I hear that you got married, I can't believe my little girl has grown up so much. I am sorry for all that I have put you through, I beg you for a chance to explain everything. Love, your mom. Her entire body went rigid and she hoped that Kat would not notice this as the message was deleted and the phone slammed down rather hard back onto the dresser. Not allowing herself to break beneath the pressure she quickly moved to the laundry room changing the sheet from the washer to the dryer and putting another load into the washer before walking back into the room to grab some fresh clothes and move to the bathroom, waiting until she was behind closed doors to allow a deep breath to whoosh through her chest and teeth to clamp down on her bottom lip. The shower was started so that there would be no suspicion about her rapid jaunt to the bathroom though she knew that he could see past this. How dare the woman contact her, especially since she had been absent from the girls life since she was three. She had just come to terms about the fact that she would never see her mother again and yet the lady had thrust her back into a form of torture. She vowed that she would pretend it never happened and just forget about it as she stepped into the shower washing the days dirt again. Long hair was dried and allowed to drape over her shoulders before she stepped out again donning clean clothes.

The answer that left her mouth almost right away after he had spoken was unexpected, but he did not let this show. Instead, he nodded briefly to her, to show that he comprehended, before turning and continuing along the deer path that they had been following for the past half hour. Now that there was no question as to whether the lass was coming along with him or not, the male was unsure of how he felt about it. Sure, at first he had been completely against the idea of her even coming along on this road trip let alone on a hike where they were surely to encounter vampires that would not think twice about sinking their teeth into her blessed vein, but slowly, he had warmed to the idea of her being with him just as he had warmed to the lady herself. She was a good wife and one such as himself could not ask for more from her gender. Then the protective instincts had begun to toy with his mind and he convinced himself that he would not allow her to be alone in unfamiliar territory while he was quite out of reach if she needed him. In the end of course, the choice was hers and although her decision to go along with him was pleasing, he also began to dread the journey as well. Keeping her as a civilian in the matter safe was his upmost priority. Second to this was exterminating the problem, but he knew that regardless of what happened, he would finish this task. Once he began questioning her safety with him while on the hunt, he debated taking back his offer of allowing her to chose where she went and ordering that she remain on the reservation in the temporary cabin until he returned, but every time he worked up the nerve to stop and address her with those intentions in mind, he talked himself out of refusing to accept her decision and simply pushed on. A few times as they walked onward, he forgotten that a even pace needed to be kept that she would be able to match without much effort and began to pull away once hitting his own stride, but after a few hundred feet he would realize and slow back down to where the distance between them was comfortable then settle into the speed which she was keeping. About another half an hour into the hike, Feylnx spoke again to address the troubles that had been on his mind and he came to another stop, turning back to look at her with expressionless eyes although inside he was shocked. What luck have I been blessed with in my parents’ choice of a wife for me? It was indeed as if she could read his mind to know exactly what he was thinking. For a moment, he entertained the thought that perhaps she was not as human as she was made out to be, but quickly dismissed that idea for he had never heard of another reading a companions thoughts the way she had just done. Remaining silent, he listened to what was spoken, still marveling at how extraordinary the female whom he was married to was. She took the situation that any would have thought of as gruesome and turned it upside down so he looked like a hero rather than an assassin. He was grateful for her refreshing outlook, but unfortunately, the talk of bravery from her lips could not convince him of the difference. Kat knew he was here for one reason and one reason only: to kill. It was something he could do often and without thinking too much about it afterwards. Not surprisingly, he was good at it and therefore the prime choice out of the Chosen assembly to be assigned to missions such as these. Even though he preferred a clean kill that included far less blood spilled than what was necessary, he would kill anyway that he could, but the job would be completed before he returned to the solitude of his house. Torso bent at the waist and the male bowed to her in respect as he words dried up; a display of appreciation although his facade refused to show it still. My parents did well in finding me a wife. Lyrics were spoken without emotion or any sort of adoration before the male turned around and started once again to hike up the hill. Why he had confessed that to her, was beyond him, but in the end, he justified it by simply telling himself that she deserved to know what he thought and receive a compliment from his lips just as she had given him many over the past twenty four hours. They remained silent the rest of the way till he decided it was time for them to take a break and he relaxed to a seated position on a boulder off to the side of the path to wait for her. Crown nodded at her words of thanks as she took the jerky from him then ate it while he watched her discretely, trying to gauge exactly how hungry she had become from the loss of energy. Keeping her well fed and warm on this trip would be perhaps the hardest challenge he would face on this trip. True, he wore down his energy much faster if he kept his usual pace, but because his supply lasted longer than hers and they would be keeping an easier beat, the shifter knew she could very easily get sick on him if he was not careful and kept a good watch upon her. The silence around them in the forest was comforting, reminding him of the woodlands back home that he knew so much better than those here. For the rest of the break, he leaned back against the bolder and closed his eyes, listening only to the creatures of the wood and their breathing while muscles loosened. Before long however, his wife interrupted his peace by jumping back up from her seated position, the food he had given her gone now, and asking him if he was ready. Straightening his posture, he nodded then rose to a stand, again taking the lead as they headed back down to the cabin. The trek back was easier since it was downhill and felt quicker to him as well although the passing of time was truly lost upon him at this point. When they returned to the house, he let her pass through first and remained at the door long after she had discarded her boots, jacket and mittens to take off his own gear. Because he was not in much of a rush, he took his time untying the boots and arranging them by the door and hanging up his jacket after stuffing his gloves and hat inside of the pockets while not really bothering with what the woman was doing. Then, just as he finished, he heard something plastic slam down against wood and frowned, whipping his head in the direction of the bedroom just as the fea emerged and made her way to the laundry area without saying a word. Staying where he was, the bloke simply watched her, brow rising as she moved about over the house in a busy haze as if trying to keep her mind off something. He could tell by the way she moved and the aura around there that there was something bothering her, but exactly what he would be clueless to know. When she moved back into the bedroom then came out with clean clothes to make a bee line for the shower, the man knew that it was not because she was concerned that she was dirty. Sighing, he moved slowly across the room to stand outside of the bathroom, hearing the water turn on and hesitating with his hands still at his sides and eyes staring blankly at the knob. What could he do? What would he say to her if he moved on from here? He had never been good at giving comfort which was obviously something she needed. Cursing under his breath, he shifted out of the way of the door to lean against the wall with arms crossed in front of his chest and head resting upon the wall. Quietly, he listened to her as she took her shower, hardly noticing a change in time till the water shut off. Readying himself, he lifted his head and waited till she walked out of the door, knowing that he would probably startle her but that did not much matter. The instant she stepped out and saw him, the brute shifted his weight off the wall and stood in front of her, not allowing for any personal space as dark eyes bore into hers. Something is bothering you. Tunes stated not questioned, knowing that he did not need confirmation from her to know he was right. With stare still intent upon her, he waited for the lass to tell him what was wrong, not thinking he needed to ask for the answer because it was obvious he expected one.

Her mind now when she walked was on nothing more then keeping one foot in front of the other not wanting to make a fool of herself and trip over any sort of underbrush that seemed common on a trail like this. When she spoke she was met with deep dark eyes and hazel gaze was raised to meet them boldly. Other girls might be scared of a man like him, though he had given her nothing to fear, she always tended to give people the benefit of the doubt hoping that they would prove to be worth the chance, he certainly had. His full attention was placed on her and her words as they left her lips to be carried through the small breeze to fall upon the heightened senses of the man. A small smile was gently placed on tender features. There was a bright side to every story and while Kat seemed to think that he was the bad guy in this situation there had to be someone to do his job. Without someone like him the vampires would penetrate the boundaries of the tribe and end up killing all the members so to save the majority of people they would have to be exterminated. What came next utterly shocked her, eyes widened slightly as the male bent at the waist and bowed to her uttering that his parents had picked a good wife for him. Thank you. She said graciously accepting the compliment though it had not overly been needed. While there had been no emotion to the statement she could still feel the weight of the words as he turned to continue his march up the hill and she did the same after him. After their small break on the top of the rock they turned back towards the house. When she arrived at the door her boots were unlaced quickly before then placed at the door and she stepped into the warm area. She knew that she had been loud in slamming the phone back on the dresser and instantly regretted it even if she knew that if she had been lighter she was sure that the male would have realized anyways. After putting the sheet in the dryer the time was spent gathering herself in the shower. When she stepped out she found him standing near to the door looking rather confused. She knew that she would have to tell him what just happened and well perhaps it would feel better if she did tell him. He stated blatantly that there was something wrong and she nodded lightly. Raven locks were only slightly damp and cascaded over shoulders as head was tilted slightly before she then paused in her movements to look to him and open her mouth to explain. Hazel optics meeting his as words flowed forth. Its my mother, I don't know how, but she got my phone number and sent me a text, telling me that somehow she knows I am married to you and saying that she wants to see me. She was not even going to pretend like it was nothing because she had vowed to be open with him. It's fine. I will be fine. It just took me so long to get over that she left and what she had done to my father. I did not think I would have to deal with her ever again. I spent so long being the tribes biggest scandal. I don't think I could forgive her for that and I don't think I want to meet her. A flash of pain crossed features as she then debated how she was going to get her mind off this. She could go for a walk though she wanted to make sure to store as much energy as possible and they had been walking all day long. She could bake though it was not to much use since they were leaving tomorrow even though she was sure that Kat would be able to finish off a batch of whatever she made. So she just stood planted to the ground eyes were then averted from his to stare at the ground before a deep inhale was drawn into her lungs and she felt a little better, straightening her shoulders a determined look crossed her face taking the spot of where the flash of pain had been. She's not worth my thoughts, I have better things to worry about. She admitted before then shifting from one foot to the other. Do you need any help preparing for the trip tomorrow? She asked him. Willing to be of help if he wanted it or she could start dinner if he wanted to do it himself. While waiting for a reply she stepped into the kitchen to decide what was going to be prepared. Steaks were pulled out of the fridge with a couple spices being put on them. When she come in the front door she had noticed that there was a BBQ on the front porch, she wondered if it was stocked full of propane though. Without hesitation in her bare feet she stepped out onto the frigid porch constantly shifting from foot to foot to keep her feet from getting too cold. On the table next to the BBQ was a lighter and the propane was turned on, she lit the BBQ before then turning to walk back into the house allowing it to warm up. Hands were rubbed together once she got inside and she rifled through the rest of the fridge and picked out a couple more things to make for dinner before setting them on the counter and resting back against the counter eyes then turn to the window with a blank stare for a moment. Shaking her head she then walked back into the main part of the house to grab the sheet and walk into the bedroom to place it on the bed now that it was clean. She deemed the BBQ to be hot enough though before she went outside this time she shrugged on a jacket and slipped into shoes before making her way onto the porch to put the meat on the grill.

When the girl stepped out from the bathroom, she did not appear to be much surprised to find the male there lounging against the wall as he waited for her to come out and he supposed that she was already getting used to his constant and often overbearing presence. Smartly, the lass did not try to deny that there was anything wrong to him and seemed to understand that lying to him would be a bad move. If there was one thing that Kat despised more than the Cold Ones it would be lies of others. Still, her eyes had yet to meet his, but almost immediately after she nodded, the lass eased her fidgeting and looked directly up at him, gathering a breath and some strength along with it as she opened her mouth to speak. Quietly and with nearly black depths that never wavered from her features, he listened closely to everything she had to say and continued to stand there, watching, even as it appeared the last words that she would share on the subject had left her lips. As one of the Chosen among the tribe and the son of his parents, the bloke knew quite well the story of his wife's mother and the betrayal that she had dealt to the poor man whom she had married. It was no secret that she had been unfaithful and the young girl that now stood before him shifting her weight from one foot to the next as if she could not decide what she wanted to do was the product of this change of course for her mother. The light skin and eyes that were staple ways to describe her screamed that the blood in her was not her fathers. Most people had shunned her because of the illegitimate father she did not have the opportunity to choose and placed the blame that should have been rightfully the mother's onto the child's shoulders. When his parents had informed him that she was his choice for a bride, the bloke had been rather astonished, but recognized that her father was much respected man still and had probably exploited that respect in order to get his daughter a preferable marriage. What he and no one else in the tribe seemed to know was where her mother had gone after disappearing upon the child's birth. The mystery had at first been a focus of the reservation: something to be gossiped about endlessly. As time passed however, the scandal had been forgotten and most people ignored it; only responding in a way that implied they remembered whenever the lass was around. Now, after seventeen years, the woman had finally contacted her offspring and Kat could not help but question why. Had her lover died leaving her with no one else in the world to rely upon outside of her young? Whatever the case, judging by Feylnx's reaction, the reaching out between barriers that had been attempted only left the girl confused and resentful which he could not blame her to be. Still, regardless of what she was saying, the man could not help but wonder if she really had no interest in ever seeing her mother. It was human nature to be curious and surely growing up as a kid she yearned for the figure in life that her father could not possibly replace no matter how hard he tried or how kind he was. When she moved to change the subject, he let her, shaking his head from side to side as an answer while for the first time breaking the connection between their eyes. No I do not need the help. Feel free to start on dinner. Staying where he was, he waited till the lady made the first move to go into the kitchen before starting on his own duties for the night. Crossing into the bedroom, he retrieved the packs and brought them out into the small living room so they could lean against the far wall beside the door for easy access in the morning. For a while, he moved back and forth from the bedroom to the packs, bringing a few change clothes that they would be needing as well as other camping supplies such as a sleeping bag, matches, and the like. The most heavy things he put into his own pack, trying to keep hers as light as possible because any added weight would only slow her down and as a man he did not think that a woman should have to carry a heavy load whenever he was around to do it for her. Once all that seemed to be done, he moved into the kitchen and brought out the food that he had bought at the store including mostly energy and granola bars, beef jerky, and other energizing snacks as well as two very tall and insulated canteens. Again, he split this load between the two packs and finally decided that they would be ready to leave whenever the time called for them to. Vaguely, he had noticed that she was preparing steaks for the grill so when he looked up to find her nowhere in sight, he was not too worried. Rising to his full height, he moved to the doorway and silently stepped out onto the porch to join her in his casual attire of jeans, socks, and a t-shirt with arms crossed in front of his chest as he watched her. When she noticed him, the baron dropped his stance and moved closer to her, capturing her face in one of his big hands as he bent to swiftly kiss her, surprising himself at his own boldness and the yearning to do it again to her. Pulling away, he felt as if he needed to say something, but was at a loss for words. Palm remained light upon her cheek, waiting there as if he were not finished so that she would not move away. Thinking back to her words, he shook his head lightly then met her gaze with an intent stare of his own. You are not fine. You are confused, but it is alright. There is no shame or weakness in that. Dropping his touch, he stepped back then after a pause returned to the house and gathered a few things from the fridge that would go well with the steak including potatoes, sugar snap peas and rolls. After boiling some water in a pot, he placed the peas in to steam and chopped up the potatoes then covered them with lemon juice and some spices before putting them in a dish and sticking them in the oven along with the rolls. All of the food finished at about the same time with the steaks finishing a little earlier than the rest and the male got out plates and silverware then put enough food for each of them onto the plates while she filled cups with water to drink. They ate quietly as usual and once everything was cleaned and put in place, the man excused himself to shower.

She was not the type to lie to someone when she could see that he already knew that there was something wrong. She would not pretend to not being feeling what she was since the first step to healing was to admit that there was a problem and he managed to already get her to admit it and it felt a little better to tell him and she was suprised how well that he was listening. She watched as he seemed to be mulling over thoughts. She was not too sure if she did have any interest in seeing her mother. Of course she was curious though she knew that it would turn her whole world upside down and she did not want to risk it since she had worked hard to make it hte way it was. When she changed the subject and asked him if he needed any help packing for the morning he shook his head and told her no and that she could go start on dinner, which she knew would take her mind a little off it. She watched after him as he moved into their bedroom with the packs to start packing for the trip that would be in the morning. She found herself standing out on the porch lingering. Watching as the snow fell from the sky and landed on the railing of the porch. It looked as though it had started to get a little heavier since they had been walking out in it this morning. A small smile was brought to her face since she could not deny that she loved the snow. The grill was fired up and it did not take too long to warm up and while she was out there it was a good source of heat, she had grabbed a jacket but it was just a light one and she rubbed her hands together to continue the circulation. She heard the door open and close long before she saw him, she turned to meet his gaze as he stepped up to her a small smile was offered in a friendly manner. His arms were crossed over his chest and she could not help but think of how handsome he looked even in just his casual attire, the thoughts of the night before and hands running over the muscles on the mans back and chest brought the true smile to reflect into hazel optics. She was done thinking about her mother since she would not have to address that for a long time until they returned home and perhaps she would not reply at all and then she would never have to deal with it since she knew that there was no way that her mother would set foot back into the tribe knowing that she was largest scandal that had happened there in a long time. Tingles ran along her spine as his hand reached out to touch her face and lingered there for a moment before lips were brought to hers. She was quite shocked at this but it was a good shock. A brilliant smile changed from the conservative one that had been plastered on her lips as he then spoke. Telling her that he knew that she was confused and that was alright, that there was no weakness in it. She nodded dipping her chin in acknowledgement to what was being said. Soon he stepped back from her to then enter the house again and once the meat was cooked on the grill it was piled onto a plate and brought back into the house where it was set immediately on the table. He had chopped up the vegetables and taken care of the stuff that was cooked in the kitchen. When it was all ready she then stepped to the table to take her seat when everything had been placed on the table. They ate in silence as they usually did and when they were finished she stood taking the plates to the sink. The time it took to wash the dishes usually gave her some time to think and she enjoyed the task so she shooed him away when she knew that he was going to want to help her. When he went to shower she stepped into the bedroom changing into a pair of sweat pants and a loose t-shirt knowing that she would need to get a lot of sleep for tomorrow especially since they would probably be leaving early in the morning. She then pulled her book out of her bag and opened it to the page where she had been reading before they left waiting for him to return from his shower.

It was strange to have someone smile up at him with as much unhindered joy that seemed to have radiated off the damsels face and the male was quite unsure what to do with it. Other women had smiled at him, yes, but not in that way. Not in the way that suggested mutual understanding and companionship. There was little that surprised him in this world and yet, a mere girl of seventeen accomplished setting him off kilter even with a simple gesture. She was so young: four years his junior and as this fact finally came into perspective, a slow building of guilt clawed at his intestines. He was the sly cat who had stolen a babe from its cradle before the child was ready and he had eagerly taken advantage of all that she offered to him under the cloak of blind trust. Her innocence made her all the more beautiful and he despised himself for recognizing and appreciating this. Feylnx place was in the home run by her father where she could grow and mature to become the woman that she wanted to be and yet, he had taken her as his wife in a selfish manner and marked her as his own in nearly every way that a man could for a woman. Who was he, an irritable, quiet assassin, to steal her chastity and leave her to become no more than the house wife to an intolerable husband and perhaps a mother to children she would surely be raising for the most part on her own? Too late, he regretted bending to his parent's will and accepting the arrangement of marriage. The situation was weighted towards his favor and left the maiden's unfairly matched in a union with him. Returning to the kitchen, he angrily sliced the potatoes, despising himself more than ever now. His mood did not lighten when she returned from the porch with the steak nor did it become any better by the time dinner was finished and he excused himself to take a shower with hardly a darkly uttered dismissal to her. He knew he was not giving justice to her by allowing his attitude to affect his manner of body language or way of addressing her, but it was impossible to stop himself. Like a tornado he could rip past anything in his path, regardless of whom or what it is, destroying it and not realizing what had been done until the storm had passed and all that left was the calmness of the sky. The man was positively a natural disaster. Kat remained in the shower for a long time, merely leaning his weight with one leg propped up in a slightly relaxed pose on his extended arms which braced themselves on the wall on either side of the knob which controlled the temperature and stream of the water as it came from the shower head. Hot water at first felt scalding to his skin, but he did not hiss or even flinch at the feeling and instead endured it until the feeling was no longer there. All around him he could see the steam clouding almost every aspect of the bathroom, making it nearly impossible to see barely two feet in front of you. This was hardly registered with his mind as conflicted as it was at the current time. Eventually, he forced himself to gather up what little respect he had left for himself and turn of the shower, stepping out and dressing within the room to avoid exposing his partly naked body to the lass' view again. Looking at himself in the mirror, he read the hard planes on his face and the sharp set of his jaw. This was the man she found handsome? Again assessing his physical attributes, he saw the years that had changed him and each event that was plainly etched across features. No, he was not handsome, not like he once had been. There was a roughness there now; a coldness that did not exist years ago when he was still young and without the curse of hosting an ancient spirit in his body. Oh if she could have seen him back then she would understand how disfigured he really was although no scar or abnormality stuck out upon his physique. Worst of all, he was the monster that robbed a barely mature lady of what little was left of her childhood. Grasping onto his pride with as tight of a hold as he could muster before he managed to lose it all, the brute forced himself to wipe away the regret that lingered. Then and there he decided he would not force her to remain with him. When they returned, he would offer her the chance to be free of him, to return to her father or to find a lover who could actually have emotion of love and devotion to her like she deserved. Until then, he would refute his own body's yearning to bed her again. Stepping out of the doorway, he was determined to not look at her, but instantly his eyes fell upon her figure curled up on the couch reading a book as if nothing in the world was evil or wrong, especially not the beast that stood a few feet away staring at her as if she were a novelty in life which she was. Jerking his gaze away, the man stalked his way into the bedroom where he put away his dirty clothes into the suit case then reluctantly returned to the living room to face his wife. I want to head off a little before noon tomorrow. The sun will be highest in the sky and most of the ice that may cause us trouble on the short drive were it morning will have melted by then. Still, I would get some sleep. You need your strength and this may be the last time you will get a good night’s sleep for many days. Talking to her clinically as if she were just someone who was going along with him on the hike rather than the woman he married, the lord spoke all he felt needed to be said then nodded curtly in a good night before disappearing into the bedroom. Dressed in pajama pants and a whit cotton shirt, he got beneath the sheets of the bed feeling caged by all the fabrics that enclosed around his body. The most clothing he ever wore to bed were a pair of boxers, but he felt that the uncomfortable feeling was worth it when he needed to make sure that he would not lay with Feylnx as he had the night before. Sure, in the back of his mind he recognized that a few extra layers of clothing would not stop him if he really wanted to, but they were there as reminders so he could stop himself if ever he started to go too far. A steady pounding headache started to plague him at the temples as minutes ticked by, his back facing the woman who had climbed into bed on the opposite side. He was wide awake and acutely aware of her breathing to the point where he debated leaving and instead sleeping on the couch like he had the first few nights they had been married, but he did not want to offend her by doing so.

What could have possibly changed the mans demeanor so vividly in a matter of moments? Was it something that she had done? She did not think so since she knew that nothing had changed since the time he had come to talk to her when she had been outside. Then he had been so sensitive to her feelings and shown a side she did not even know existed with him. Slowly but surely she felt as though he was starting to let her in, so did that mean that she might be able to ask him what was wrong and if she had been the sole cause of it? Well that was pushing it. While she had been inviting with her past and allowing him into her more personal aspect of her life she had to settle with not knowing too much about him since it seemed as though he was a very private person. There was nothing wrong with that though and she knew that the moment that you allowed someone into the circle of trust there was a small bit of vulnerability that plagued you, the possibility that they might get mad and use it in a blackmail situation so she needed to make sure that he knew that she was not like that and never would tell his secrets, nor would she judge whatever he had done in his past knowing that it was not the past of someones life that determined who they were. It was what they were like in the future and the decisions that they made then she also knew that a lot of what he had been forced to carry out would be nothing more then orders from the tribe and simply because that was the person that he was expected to be and the role that he was told that he needed to play. From what she had seen of him was that he took a lot of things so seriously and she wondered if he ever did something that he enjoyed just because he enjoyed it or did there always have to be a reason? She strived to figure out the things that he enjoyed to make sure that he did not lose himself to the things that he was forced to do. There was an important balance that she knew no longer remained or perhaps never did. She remained silent through dinner while struggling with what should be her next step, should she ask him or should she brush it off and hope that in the morning it would be different. She did not know him well enough to know how he would respond to her recognizing distress and calling him out on it. When he excused himself to shower she finished putting things away in the different cupboards before then stepping into the living room to sit on the couch with her knees pulled to her chest to read the book that was unfolded before her. Soon she was consumed by the content written in the pages and she did not have a clue how much time had passed before he then appeared back at the doorway looking just as perturbed, brow was raised slightly. Are you ok? Did I do something? She questioned, soft expression reaching up for hazel optics to lock with his dark eyes. When he then continued and told her that he wanted to head out to where they were going at around noon she nodded, turning back to all business. No lingering words were spoken though a good night was uttered in the form of a gesture. She then stood, barefeet soft on the floor of the house carrying her to the bathroom to brush her teeth before going to bed, she finished and washed her face before then heading back to the bedroom climbing into the other side, wearing her pajama pants and a loose t-shirt. She could not help but notice that he was not in his traditional attire and wearing a lot more clothes, was this part of what had been wrong? She did not allow it to bother her too much though since she knew that it was going to be busy day tomorrow and she would need to be in her best health and slipped into a deep sleep easily within a matter of a couple of minutes. In the morning she awoke to find that she had slept a little longer then she had planned and the sun was just finishing rising from where it had been dormant for the night. Arms were stretched above her head before then swinging her legs over the edge of the bed and standing to begin the morning routine and to see if Kat needed any help before they left.

Her words stuck him in the stomach and involuntarily, he stopped just before walking through the doorway between the bedroom and the living room, flinching almost as if she had slapped him. Sighing, he slowly composed himself, fighting with words that did not easily formulate within his mind. Obviously, he needed to reassure her that it was not her fault, but would it be easier if she thought that something was? It could be easily understood how she thought that she was the cause of his less than civil attitude that evening with the way he had been addressing her, but something in him rebelled against letting her believe that she had done something to displease him when it had been merely the opposite. So far, Feylnx had proven herself to be the perfect wife in every aspect of life and he was surely confident that that fact would change, however, he was convinced that she deserved better than him as a husband. Was it not balanced for a perfect wife to have a perfect mate? Kat knew he was and would always be far from meeting any such requirements that would deem him even adequate as a living partner let alone someone with whom a woman was expected to spend the rest of her life with. Reluctantly, he turned to look at her with a softened mask that still managed to contain every emotion except weariness and sincerity. Dark eyes met with her depths and instantly he regretted looking at her at all. Seeing her genuine concern and the worry that she had done something to offend him tempted the man into changing his mind and keeping her for himself like the selfish brute he was supposed to be, but in the end, he knew he could not hold her to their contract against her will. If she wanted to be free of him so she could attach herself to some guy that could love her then it was only right for her to be able to do so. Shaking his head, he closed his eyes briefly, taking in then releasing a quick breath before opening shades to look at her again. No, you have done absolutely nothing wrong. Finishing, he turned and made his way to the bed to lay there long after she had followed his lead and gotten beneath the covers as well. Only after the damsel's breathing had finally leveled off into a rhythmic pattern did the lord relieve himself of the bed that made him feel far too close to her. Standing and stepping out of the bedroom as quickly as he could while still acquiring adequate stealth, he moved to the kitchen where he poured himself some water and tried to calm his over active mind. Much like her, he needed to get his sleep, but that seemed as if it would be impossible for the night. Moving to the couch, he sat down and put his head between his knees with elbows resting on legs and hands clasped out in front of him. Palms ran over his head, shifting his hair back and forth and sideways in both directions almost like he was trying to rub the energy from his mind. Opening his eyes, he saw the book that Fey had been reading previously sitting upon the coffee table and out of sheer curiosity and boredom; he leaned down and picked it up. From there, because he had nothing better to do, he began to read the book even though he was not particularly interested in the content. In this manner, he fell asleep about halfway through with the page still open lying on his chest. He awoke before the sun rose the next morning like clockwork and returned her book to the exact spot where it had been on the table the night before then quietly, he moved into the bedroom to dress for the day. Leaving her sleeping, he moved on to the kitchen and began to make omelets, finishing just as the sun came up and the lady walked out from behind the closed bedroom door. He glanced up from the stove where he had been cooking to look at her and after forcing a small smile he turned back to pulling his omelet out of the pan and putting it onto his plate. The burner was turned off and the utensils left in the sink to be washed later as he brought over the plates and glasses to the small table used for dining. He ate his breakfast in silence then while she got dressed, he checked the hiking packs one last time before loading them into the back seat of the SUV. From there, he helped her repack everything into their suitcases and move that to the very back of the vehicle so that the cabin would be open for any other travelers, however scarce the chance might be of another arriving at this time of the year. The pan, spatula, and other dishes they had used that morning were washed, rinsed, dried, and put away at last before Kat did a final sweep of the premises to make sure they had not left anything. After that was done, he deemed it was an appropriate time to move out and moved towards the door to put on his hiking boots and heavy winter jacket. He helped her into her bright pink one after she had finished fitting her shoes to her feet then he moved out of the doorway, closing and locking the door as she stepped out after him. From there, they both got into the SUV and Kat turned it onto a road that looked like it was rarely used and took them deeper into the reservation and therefore further away from civilization. He had told the chief that they would be departing around this time today in a phone call earlier that day so he had no doubt that the tribe would be anticipating their return as either living breathing things or as dead bodies that would be buried along with the other casualties. They drove for nearly two hours along the same winding path, moving at a creeping, slow pace to make sure that they did not go off the drive or that the shifter did not lose control and kill them before he ever got the chance to take care of business. When they finally reached a small plateau that looked like it was the end of the route, the bloke parked the vehicle and cut the engine before looking over at her and opening his door at the same time. We hike further into the mountains from here. Getting out, he left the keys in the driver’s seat because he knew no one would be looking to steal a car way up here and he got their packs from the back seat. First, he fitted his own then turned to help her set hers comfortably upon her back. Once they were ready, he produced two pairs of snow shoes from underneath the back seat. We'll need these for now because the fresh powder is still too loose. Finally, once they were both fitted for the hike, Kat started out heading north, leading the way at a slow pace that would be easy for her to keep up with. They had gone only about fifty feet when the male paused and turned back to her as an afterthought. There is food and water in your pack. Make sure you eat plenty to keep your energy up and drink enough so you don't get dehydrated. Tell me if you start to feel fatigued and we can break. We have a good five hours of hiking to do before the sun goes down and tomorrow we hike another six to reach the spot where the most recent death occurred. I don't want you wearing yourself out on the first day. Making sure he was perfectly understood, he waited till she at least nodded in acknowledgement before starting ahead once more. Feylnx did exceptionally well for her first time hiking in these sort of conditions. They stopped only three times along the way for twenty minute breaks before starting out again. When he noticed that she had not eaten or drank anything recently, he would tell her in a voice that tolerated no argument to eat some of the jerky he had placed in the first flap or to drink some of the water from her canteen. Just as they sun began to sink below the horizon, they came upon a small cave and he decided it was time to make camp. He put up a wind resistant tent within the cave with her help then went out to get some firewood. While on that trip, he shifted and captured two rabbits: small prey that wounded his beast's pride at having to scavenge for such lowly beasts, but he knew they would cook fast and be less weight to carry back to camp than would a larger game animal. He returned and built a cooking fire outside of the cave with a large rock to block the wind. Snow was put in a pot and set over the fire to boil while he skinned, gutted, and sliced the hares he had hunted. Once the water was boiling, he tossed the slivers of meat into the water then produced a bag of dried beans from his pack to put in the water along with the meat.
